I'm just curious what others have played and maybe you can throw in your location, age, marital status, so I can assure her I'm not the only one with the Golfing Disease.

"You played a recreational round this year at Oakmont with me.  I kicked your ass--remember?  Not that you were trying and you also have two bad shoulders.  No excuse.  I crushed you and  that's with a double on 17 when I hit Mark's goofy iron since I brought driver with me to the tee and playing 18 in the dark where Mark made a miracle par."

Yep, Wayno, I remember only too well. That's why I played no more recreational rounds this year and perhaps will never play another one. It was the epitome of shame and humiliation to get my ass kicked by a common run of the gutter piss-boy like you who hit his opening drive on the first hole 378 yards right down the narrow strip of fairway only to miss the green that was close enough to spit on, and who hit his drive on #12 somewhere in the neighborhood of West Virginia and his drive on #17, albeit it Mark Studer's utillity club, somewhere in the neighborhood of Erie Pa. It was a disgusting thing to subject me and my ass to.

Never again.

No, seriously, if they could somehow manage to put my head on your body and your distance we could do some real damage to the integrity of a golf course like Oakmont. You could beat it about the head and shoulders violently and I could sneak up on it when it didn't see me coming and together it would be ours.  ;)

You could also sell some of those birdies you made to Tiger in the Open next year for some serious whiskey money.

Also, while on the subject of Oakmont, I should tell you for the benefit of JESII (Sully) that some years ago I played there in the State Amateur with Sully's Dad and in 72 holes he did not 3-putt a single time. Fastest greens we ever saw and that was one helluva a feat.

About 100 rounds.  I'm 53, single father of a 14-year old daughter.    Restrictions are work and the late-April to mid-November season around here.  But I really think that 4 to 5 rounds a week max is the ideal.  If you play more than that -- you should find some other interest.

As for results, I had a disappointing year.  Only one round under par, and that -1.  Handicap no lower than 5.  I imagine only 1% of golfers ever shoot under par for 18 in their lives, though.  (I'd be interested in hearing how many forum participants have ever broken par.)

I did take first place in the B division of a tournament, I guess that was the highlight.  I'm a threat in the B, but if I drop a handicap stroke, I'm all at sea in the A division.  In the tournament I was steady, but resigned to second place until the 34th hole.  There I played away from the tucked pin and faced a 50 foot 2-putt for par.  The leader shortsided and then visited a bunker, over the back, back over again and 3-putted.  A train wreck for a quad!  I two putted that and the remaining 2 holes for pars.  Good things come to those that wait...

Brian,
I've only played about 60 give or take this year which is low for me.  But that included playing 23 different courses this year that were ranked on one of the top 100 lists.  You can learn a lot playing and studying great designs.

A very disappointing 17 rounds and 5 scrambles.  To make it worse, 16 of those rounds happened over 11 days - a 5-day trip to Orlando, a 3-day trip to Reynold's Planatation, and 3 days in Hawaii.

I'm very appreciative to play the courses I've gotten to play, but the frequency has really suffered due to work obligations.  Coaching little league baseball has really cut into the available time for golf, particularly in the spring - but a tradeoff I'm definitely willing to make.

EUREKA!  Someone who speaks my language.  I do baseball from Feb-May and soccer from Aug-end of Nov.  And it does rather take away nearly all available golf time.

But it is a tradeoff I'm surely willing to make also - these little kid years are not going to come back, and golf will always be there.

Of course none of this means I will cease whining about lack of golf time.   ;D

40, married, 2 kids under 3.

77.8% of one round (14 holes).

And my club is across the street.

It might be the most expensive round of golf played this year.

I just checked.......posted 11 scores, palyed in 2 scramble outings and 2 nine hole rounds with my daughter....looks like 15........that is pretty poor.

Age 46, married with a 9 year old daughter.

Considering who the employer is....this total is worse than poor.

Tom:

Our league has a spring season from Feb through mid-May and a fall season from late Aug through October - pretty much overlaps the best golfing weather in Atlanta.

Even though I still bitch about not playing enough, I am having a blast coaching baseball.  Too soon they'll be on to girls and cars and college & won't have much time for dad, but for now they are arguing over who's team I'm going to coach this season.

Would love to get them to play golf so we can do it together, but it is a very gradual thing right now.  I've given them clubs and take them to the range and putting green occasionally, but I'm not pushing it for fear of turning them off to it (they already recognize my obsession - "Dad, if you're not playing golf, you're watching it, reading about it or chatting about it on the computer!").  They've been to the course with me a few times, and of course the highlight is riding in the cart.  I do need to get them out walking this spring.

I realized the true shift in my priorities when I had to take my golf clubs out of the back of my Explorer because of all the baseball crap - bat bags, buckets of balls, helments, folding chairs, etc.

Andy - seems we are leading parallel lives... and it is a lot of fun, for sure.  My son has somewhat caught the golf bug -he begs to play - so that is a good thing.   ;D

Well, with age spreads 11,8, 3 months... you can make a logical deduction that might wife got around to this a little too late.. and that the demand is constant now.

186, last check

Not as many as last year, unfortunately, but still a fair amount.

Im shooting for 300 this year, for real!

Jordan, keep us posted on your progress to 300, you've got about 20 day to fit in 114 rounds, that would be impressive.

13 rounds in 2006, playing the worst golf of my life (I am working on my game and close to being decent).  I haven't played the same course twice this year, which is pretty common for me.  I should end the year with 14.  I was on the DL for 3 months with tendinitis in my right hand.

I am aiming for 20 rounds in 2007 but not sure I will make that considering we have a baby on the way.

For 2005 I played a total of 3 rounds (2 of which were with GCAers!).  2006 introduced me to fatherhood and slashed that huge number to 1!
Cheers,
Brad

Brad,

You really need to get out more... ::) :'(

For me this year about 35 rounds including a half dozen charity scrambles etc. About an average golfing year for me. Low round was 72 at St Andrews!*

53, Colorado, married with 4 girls. Need to keep working for awhile to save up for weddings...

*Unfortunately, that's not TOC, but St. Andrews GC in beautiful Westcliffe, Colorado, a course that defines "pasture golf."  :'(

I posted 54 rounds, I played 3 early in the year, 3 on a course that doesn't have a course rating and 4 since posting ended for a total of 64.

In addition to those rounds I probably spent another 60 to 80 days on golf courses prepping the course for tournaments, officiating or doing course ratings.

54 years old, divorced, no kids.

Back when I was married I played around 120 rounds a year and my wife played about 180.  But, I didn't work in the summer in those days.

Considering the fact that I live in Southern California, I should play far more than I do, but I only had the opportunity to play 5 times in 2006.

The reasons for the lack of playing time are (a) there was an election season this year (I'm a lobbyist by trade) (b) I went through successful labour negotiations with the Teamsters and (c) my big boy, Charlee, a wonderful bearded collie, developed tumours in his bladder and around his pancreas leading to multiple trips to hospital.

However, it will get better next year, as we are going to Cabo del Sol for some badly needed R&R over the Memorial.  I get two rounds on the Ocean and one on the Desert, plus a visit to the Trailer Park.

I'm 35, no real children, but three of the furry variety:  Charlee 13, Mack 7 (will be 8 in January) and Trafford 6 months.  Charlee and Mack are bearded collies and Trafford is a bernese mountain dog.

Looks like I will just barely get my 100th different course this year, like I have for the last several years. Today was courses number 97 & 98, and tomorrow and Friday will put me at the magic number.

I was a little doubtful a few weeks ago that I was going to be able to keep my streak alive, but it now looks very promising.  Barring a washout one of the next couple days.
