Wonderful World of Golf Match - Your choice
« on: October 24, 2006, 11:17:49 AM »
If Shell approached you and asked where you would most like to see a Wonderful World of Golf match and who would the participants be - where and who would you choose? One in the US and one outside the US.

My golf has been limited to the US and I would like to the match played at Sand Hills or Ballyneal so that the golf world can see what makes a great course.  I would also like to see two players who are strong advocates of innovative architecture - perhaps Crenshaw versus Watson at Ballyneal.

It would have to be playing very firm and very fast - nothing would be worse than Tiger overpowering the course.

I thought that was a given at Sand Hills.

And I never mind seeing Tiger overwhelm a good course. That's what Tiger is for!

As for my non-US match: Give me anyone you please at Royal County Down or Royal Dornoch -- so that I can be sure to see them before I die.

Just curious, have they ever played a match @ Cypress Point?

For inactive players, I'd like to see Ben Hogan v. Billy Casper @ Pacific Dunes.

As for active players, Tiger v. either Jim Furyk or Paul Casey @ Friar's Head

U.S.: Bubba Watson Vs. Woods  @ Cypress Point

I think it would provide a good demonstration of the need to control one's power and excel around the greens. Probably a blowout, but perhaps a shootout if Bubba is on. It would certainly entertain, even if it wasn't a close match.

International: Stuart Appleby Vs. Retief Goosen @Cape Kidnappers

Not much in the way of exciting interviews, but I always love how effortlessly these two appear to produce power, and it would be fun to watch them play in a gale.

The match I wanted to see at the Ryder Cup: Tiger vs. Sergio and play it home and away at Valderrama and Pebble with the rubber match at St. Andrews if it's tied. Sounds like a new pay per view deal to me!
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Me vs. Christie Kerr  ::) at Pine Valley.

Who wants to just watch the people like Tiger tear up a place?  I want to play the course!

And I know I would lose, but who cares!  It's all about playing the game.

Dan, you need to look at Ran's County Down profile NOW!

Who should do the commentary - I think a Brad Klein - Peter Kessler team with Nick Faldo out on the course or vice versa although I don't know how the players would react to a comment such as "You idiot, don't you understand the ground game!"

I was bold. Looked at the awesome pictures. Read the fine text. And am still here to tell the tale -- though, if I'm not mistaken, my pulse is somewhat elevated.

I'm sure there are some historical battles we could think of that could've swung the balance of power....

A Young FDR v. Hirohito @ Waialae CC

Lyndon Johnson v. Ho Chi Minh @ Wack-Wack GC, Phillipines

Mussolini v. Churchill @ Biarritz Resort GC

Grant v. Lee @ Oakhurst Links

Napoleon v. Admiral Nelson @ The Old Course

I always wondered if any of the diplomats played a round while signing treaties at Bretton Woods or Wentworth-by-the-Sea in NH...

Me v. Adolph Hitler at Trump National on pay per view TV:

I'd give him 2 aside, that's 2 bullets in his knees on the front, and if he isn't dead, 2 in his head on the back. ;D
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta
