Does anyone know of the complete redesign going on the old Fort Sheridan land north of Chicago?
There was an existing golf course, a one time army course, with really fantastic land...much like Shoreacres', which is a very short drive away.
I had head rumors for a while that Tom Doak was actually going to do the work, but apparently now Cornish and Silva have the job. Here is an except from the Lake Forest Forest Preserve Website:
"Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve features rolling terrain, bluffs, ravines and mature trees set on the Lake Michigan shoreline, along with the 18-hole Fort Sheridan Golf Club.
The golf course is now closed to public access so work can begin to accomplish the goals set forth in the Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve Master Plan, approved by the Forest Preserve Board of Commissioners at their April 2003 meeting. This includes renovation of the golf course led by the renowned architect firm of Silva, Cornish and Mungeam. "
So has anyone heard of what is going on there? I would feel land like that so close to a large city is hard to come by!
Thanks!
