"You cannot be serious!"

This article seems way over the top to me:

http://www.lasvegasgolf.com/departments/coursereviews/nevada/edgewood-tahoe-golf-course-2878.htm

The author and contributors compare Edgewood Tahoe favorably to Pebble.

Thoughts from the treehouse?

That article is just and ad for Edgewood.

In seriousness comparing the two courses is well... not gonna come out well for Edgewood.  I'd even put price in there... for my money I swear I think Pebble at $500 is a better deal than Edgewood at $200.

Edgewood is the very definition of Tom Doak's "dumb blonde."  That is, pretty but absolutely no brains.  There isn't a single hole on the course that is anything but bust a driver to a wide fairway with no advantage to one side or the other.

It is a fun golf course - very ego-building as well as remember it's at altitude - so all those 500 yard par 5s are really playing about 450....

It's not worth $200 to play.  If you can get a freebie - and remember, it's right near the casinos - the hell yes it's worth playing.  But comparable to Pebble?  Please.

This article is so ridiculous that even a comment to state how ridiculous would be flattering to Edgewood.

Golf is more than just the views.   Something this author obviously never considered.

I've learned long ago that feature stories for travel information sites, whether they are golf or any other industry, are to be taken with a serious grain of salt.  I would be surprised if this author, if pressed on the subject, would not cringe when challenged directly on the premise of his article's title.

Let me see, ocean, or casinos.
Ocean, or a big lake.
Big cliffs overlooking the ocean, or small beaches to a lake.

Some part of me thinks that I would take the ocean even without playing either of the courses.

Jordan - well, the big lake is pretty darn gorgeous.  And the casinos are in view in the opposite direction - so can be ignored pretty easily.

I'd say Edgewood is definitely a BEAUTIFUL golf course, and preference for it or Pebble in terms of visuals just comes down to whether one prefers seascapes or Alpine lakes.  I'm with you - take me to the sea - but I could at least understand one who prefers the beauty of Edgewood.

What I would find difficult to understand is anyone preferring the overall golf course at Edgewood.

BUT... there are quite a few anti-Pebbleites would participate in this group.  So I supposed I wouldn't be THAT surprised!

The golf courses are not even close to the same caliber, Pebble wins by a landslide in my opinion.  Having grown up in the mountains, I really like the beauty of the Lake Tahoe area and would rather live in the mountains and visit the coast than the other way around.

Randy Youngman, the OC Register sports writer that is quoted in this article maybe one of the Top 5 worst people in the world I have ever met.

If ever there was a category of professonal writers that took advantage of the system for every perk and freebie offered, he would be at the top of his field. He isn't a very good writer either.

Chris,

When I saw the subject of this thread I thought you were going to tell us that tennis great John McEnroe was designing a course.  ;D

Robert:  Glad someone caught the reference there to the great Johnny Mac.  I felt compelled to quote him when I saw the article.
