Golf shirts?????
« on: July 21, 2006, 07:32:19 PM »
Today I was cleaning out my golf shirts which seem to constantly pile up and noticed that I had logos from 19 different courses and that is considering that I rarely keep a golf shirt more than a year.  So....my questions are:
How many golf shirts do most of you keep at one time?  Me  about 25
What is your dominant brand?  Fairway and green
How long does your average golf shirt make it?  less than a year
What do you think of the new fabrics and zip up stuff.....Me??mainly for cake decoraters and flower shop owners
Do you purchase a shirt each time you play one of the "must play" courses....  yep

Mike,

I just went in and counted 64 shirts, including five long sleevers (some logoed for the Dallas Stars) and the dozen or so I got at my last grand opening. And when I moved into my new, smaller place, I donated nearly 50 to good will.

I am wearing a Nike high tech dri fit shirt right now, and it does seem to work in our 100 degree heat. I preferred Cutter and Buck, but doubt I will buy cotton again. I don't know which of the new brands I will like best.

My shirts make it longer than yours, but some of the 64 are relegated to errand duty.  The oldest came from my Ireland Trip in 2000.  My policy is to only where shirts from my own courses or from Dead Guys.  My collection includes one from UofMichigan, PV, Baltusrol, a few Irish courses, Oakmont, Oakland Hills, and of course, Cowboys, Colbert Hills, Sand Creek Station, Quarry, Legend, Wilderness, Indian Creek, Tangleridge, Ridgeview Ranch, etc.

Jeff,
I do like the Dri fit stuff and as a fat guy I can say it looks better after a hot day at the course.....I prefer Adidas for the fabirc but the new Izod(not Lacoste) is really good dri fit stuff also.....
I agree on only wearing from my courses or the dead guys.....but I am still having a hard time changing all the way from cotton.....

Actually, the Dri-fit stuff is very good.  I used to wear test the early Nike Dri-fit golf shirts way back in the early 1990s.  They really do wick moisture away, which results in a cooler experience.

I think the Ashworth all-weather system is a good product.

I think we need Tommy N to develop a unofficial GolfClubAtlas logo for shirts :)

I have 8 shirts (probably because I never wear golf shirts unless I am playing that day), but 3 will be retired to France.  I figure it doesn't matter what I wear over there.  In fact, it helps in shot negotiation.  I prefer non-logo shirts (corporate or club) so GAP is my preferred brand - they always go on sale in the fall and are very cheap.  I will buy a logo shirt if I like the club, the price is reasonable and I need a shirt.  The stars very rarely align for this to happen.

I have about 20 shirts or so.  They only seem to last a year or so.  I was all about cotton-Fairway and Green and Bobby Jones.  My biggest pet peeve is when the collars curl and need to be ironed.  They never get ironed so I rarely wear them....just for chores around the house.

I'm starting to like some of the synthetics.  I like Gear (got one from Sand Hills and Baseball Hall of Fame) and I wore an Adidas climacool in 96 degree humid heat and it was very comfortable.  Steve Sayers had one as well and he too thought it a good shirt.

I like getting logos shirts from clubs I enjoy.  Half my shirts are my home club...they have a big sale the Thur before father's day and its a good time to stock up.

I just had this conversation with a buddy of mine while we were in Ireland.  I really enjoy getting a shirt from any top top course I play.  I probably have at least 80 shirts and try to take care of them ( my wife is pretty good about this- like I want my shirts from Pine Valley or Merion to last!).
This is in sharp contrast to my buddy who is a member of a top 100 club in Arizona.  He has only 6 shirts ( I think only with his club's logo) and replaces them every year. And he wouldn't buy a shirt from another club with the name on it.
I like it when the name of the club is displayed prominently
( although it's pretty cool for clubs like Merion, and Creek to just have the logo with no name).
When it's really hot I like to wear the clima cool shirts from Adidas (I got a great one at TPC Sawgrass last year), but mostly just wear regular cotton shirts, all brands.  I just buy what I like.
By the way,  the shirts and hats in Ireland at all the great courses were pretty outrageous.  It was hard to find just an average low end golf logo shirt for under $100 and hats were priced upwards to $40.  We were at the K Club the last day and the prices were absolutely outrageous. I found a nice hat at the airport just by chance that was only about $20

Before I weeded them out and filled a couple of bags for Goodwill...I had 75 golf shirts in my closet.  Yikes! :o

I have a couple brands that I usually wear.  The classic looking Fairway & Greene, and RL Polo, and the more modern J Lindeberg.  The Lindeberg shirts are great in the hot summer.  They are made from a material called "Aqua Miracle Fiber", a type of polyester material, that really keeps you cooler.  I have the shirt below in about 10 different solid colors.  I'll admit it, I've always been a bit of a clotheshorse, my wife says...worse than a lot of women. ;)  Oh well, it's a healthier vice than some other things.

We will have the Fa Tass brand out soon.  And it will begin with XL and go to 4x.  We also will have an underarmor type of underwear with a yellow anti mcrobial pouch and a light brown fabric which will come in one color we call Fudge.   And this will be combined with Fa Tass nut powder which is a mentholated powder that is being privately labelded by Gold Bond.  Ill send you some.

I refuse to get up to count them, but I would estimate 30.  I am fortunate enough to be able to wear them to work.

My wife has asked me to institute a "one in, one out" policy to hold down the numbers, since I seem to be unable to hold down the urge to buy golf shirts on sale.

Here is what I know....I bought several thousand...actually several 10's of thousands of shares of Charter Golf back in the day at somewhere around .20-30 cents a share....then Charter became Ashworth, and the rest is history...now, I don't own any Ashworth stock nor any of their shirts...and I sunk all the money I made into houses in Montana.

I own about 25 or so. Ashworth, Fairways and Greens, Slazenger, Head, Abboud, Cutter Buck, Nike, B. Jones-- you name it. The the last couple shirts I've purchased
have been Fidra. If I really like a course, I almost always pickup a hat or a shirt.

Anybody got any of the old Pickerings with the stays in the collar.  I bet I have seen a 1000 of these in SA with the Doral logo.  Seems to be standard fare.

yes, can you blame him? they're great, and carried sparingly - not surprisingly, Pine Valley has the best selection I've ever seen.

I don't have many, less than 10 real golf shirts.

None of them are golf brands, either. They're just whatever thin cotton, pointy collar, slim fit shirts I can find. So far stores like Express Men and H&M have been working for me. I'm 5'7 and 143 so trying to find actual golf clothes with a slim/tailored fit is...impossible. Other than J. Lindeberg stuff, nothing at Golfsmith fits me at all.

Anybody wear Rosasen shirts or shorts?

Difini sportswear make the only golf shirts I've seen that I like. Meaning they don't really look like golf shirts. If I can't have those I'll go with the standard Lacoste. Logos? no thanks. I collect score cards.
