Golfworld has an interesting hole by hole description that is actually critical of many of the holes and changes that have been made to them.  I'm not sure who wrote the commentary.

I couldn't find a picture of #3 but it seems like on #18 they kept the structures well back, preserving the sight line from the tee to the entire green complex. It doesn't look like there's much over to the left near #3.

The players seem to be very complimentary of Hoylake.  I don't know if this is just a psychological ploy or if it's sincere.  Anyway, I've read a lot of comments mentioning the challenge of the firm and fast conditions, the subtle nuances, the well-placed bunkers and the overall strategic value of the course.  This should be one heckuva tournament.
