"Experience the Old Course: St. Andrews Links"
« on: July 04, 2006, 07:34:27 AM »
Ran has been kind enough to permit me to discretely promote my latest book (title above).  It is the second of our "Experience" series (after Royal Dornoch--Carnoustie will be the next, out in the Fall), and gives one a player's and aficionado's view of what is probably the oldest ande certainly the most revered venue for the game of golf in the world.

I have e-mailed this information to the many of my GCA friends who have bought the Dornoch book, but I probably missed more than a few due to my less than unchaotic filing system.  For those whom I missed, you can contact me at rg@optimizegolf.com if you are interested in purchasing volume #2 of the burgeoning series.  The retail price including delivery to the USA is ~$75.

The book is not only bigger than the Dornoch book, but also contains 21st century imagery which must be seen to be believed.

Thanks, Ran, for allowing this post.

What's the retail price in the UK and how widely available will it be?

I bought your Dornoch book when I was last there (last summer) and before I found this site. Very impressive.
2014 to date: not actually played anywhere yet!
Still to come: Hollins Hall; Ripon City; Shipley; Perranporth; St Enodoc

Rich,

Please check your email.  I'd be happy to add to my Experience collection with your second volume.  Let me know the logistics and would you mind signing my copy?
Congratulations and best regards,
WSM

what is the likelihood of this and the Dornoch book being made available to us convicts?

these are two of my favourite courses, and I'd love to get a copy of each book.

I'm guessing I'm not Robinson Crusoe down here either, in regards to my hopes of acquiring these books.

Rich -

What are the odds that the "Experience Dornoch" book will be re-issued at some point with the improved "21st century imagery?"

The simple answer is no, but we have set up a North American subsidiary which should facilitate direct distribution across the pond.  I will look up "Indigo/Chapters" on the web.  Thanks for the reference.

David

There will probably be a 2nd edition of the Dornoch book fairly soon.  When this happens we will fix a few tyops and change a bit of text (and maybe even raise the price!), but you'll probably have to wait until the 5th edition for significant changes in the imagery.  To me, at least, part of the charm of that book is its 20th century feel.

Rich,

Are you setup to take payment via PayPal?  The credit card fee and exchange costs (paid by the card owner) may not be terribly cheap, but the convenience for you and your customers could be well worth it.

Indigo/Chapters are the Canadian eqivalent of Borders - very similar store set-up etc.

I have a $100CDN gift card, so if you could set up distribution there by next week, I'd appreciate it.  :-) :-)

I second this notion as it will likely be cheaper for us Canucks to buy it this way.  I loved the Dornoch book and am planning to get this book.

What course is up next Rich?

Sorry for getting back late, Andrew.  There is no distribution yet down under.  Any suggestions? :)  In the meantime you can order by mail.

Wayne K.

Next book is Carnoustie, hopefully out in the autumn.

Check the post it's arrived! Definitely more in it than the Dornoch book but no time now to do more than skim it.
