I agree that any DC tournament has to be near the city.  That drive out to RTJ can be awful, then again, the Beltway near Congo, Avenel, and Burning Tree is no peach either.

The reviews that I have received concerning VA Tech's redesigned course were quite positive, is there something they are missing?

I like Shapiro's suggestion of making RTJ the permament home of the President Cup every four years.

Dump DC as a regular tour stop. Baltimore has a couple of more interesting venues in Baltimore Country Club and Caves Valley.

Five Farms, yes. Please no more Caves Valley. I am still bored from watching the Senior Open and the NCAA's. Please, no more!!!

Five Farms is already committed to having the new Seniors Players Championship, so I doubt they'd be interested in having  both.

One other option is Four Streams, although I imagine that may be a little too far from the Beltway.

I have heard and read that they will address the drainage issues, although 15 inches of rain in a few days will drown any golf course, and they will regrass the fairways.  Other than that, there are only a few options open as the routing is set.  I will repeat my earlier point that the golf course is not the reason why the players didn't come.  The tournament usually had a bad date relative to the US Open and that kept a lot of them from coming.  Look at the courses they play and look at how many of them are better than Avenel - there are a whole lot that are not any better. BMW came in with big bucks and now the Western is being moved around either at their suggestion or the tour's.  Either way, Booz Allen didn't want a similar arrangement and no big sponsor has stepped up to pay the price.

I'm not so sure I'd like a regular tour stop at BCC for purely personal reasons ;)

I'm somewhat flattered that Finchem sent me a personal letter on this (I suspect I'm one of many DC golfers to receive this).  Anyway, I'm a little more inclined to give Finch a chance to see what the PGA will do for golf in DC.

Yikes, Shackelford getting a look at this letter is really going to be something!  Maybe, he can help on the clubhouse.
