Mike C: You misinterpreted my nomination ... I said right up front that hardly anyone would notice we were there, which is a perfect "restoration" to a course that was in pretty fine form beforehand.
David T: In stripping away the top layer of sand and nematodes, we essentially lowered all of the green surfaces a bit closer to their original elevations. This required working on the greenside bunkers as well to make them tie in appropriately. You'd have to have a pretty good eye to pick out what's different.
We did restore (or fill in) a couple of bunkers that had been changed in previous years. We softened the back-to-front slope on the steepest greens (2, 7, 8 and 11), by lowering the back or adding a bit of internal contour. We enlarged the 17th green significantly back to its original size. And we changed the green complex on 15, because it wasn't original and was a bit out of character, but they wouldn't let us go back to the original routing for 13-14-15.
So, we didn't do much, but doing it took Jim Urbina twice as long as Yeamans Hall.
