Architect's question: Why no greens today like...?
« on: June 27, 2006, 11:55:55 AM »
Take Yale as a perfect example, why are architects today doing nothing like the greens at Yale, or the 11th green at Kittansett?

Too big or too controversial? Not suited to todays grasses and green speeds. Not enuf pin placements?
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

Cary

Have you been to

Friars Head (Coore and Crenshaw)

Boston Golf Club (Gil Hanse)

The Kingsley Club (Mike Devries)

Laurel Links or Morgan Hill (Kelly Blake Moran)

Each of these architects have built great sets of greens that are every bit as thought provoking and fun as the older guys greens.

note- I hate the land Kelly was given on the back 9 at MH but the greens are superb.

I have been to FH and the KC, and yes I agree that the greens work is excellent, but why don't we see more of it???????????/
