Lancaster, PA golf?

Good chance the family will be in the Lancaster area for 3 or 4 days this weekend.  Can anyone recommend a fun course that is not too long a drive?

Andy -

The best place to head is north towards Lebanon County.  I would recommend Iron Valley and Royal Oaks.  It is not a long drive up 72 or 501 to either course.

Other choices would be WrenDale by Hurdzan/Fry and Hershey CC with 2 courses- East by G. Fazio and West by Maurice McCarthy, a 1930s classic.

JNagle and Steve, are any of those choices a short easy drive (sneaking off for as short a time as possible=improved odds of domestic tranquility)?  Looks like we may be in/near Strasburg if we make the trip.

redanman, yeah, just my luck--escape drenched DC and end up in drenched PA :-\

The closest course to Strasburg is the former Host Farm course now known as something else. It's fair. I would imagine every course mentioned above is within 30 minutes or so from Strasburg.

Andy,
 That is the place. It has been through numerous ownership changes and redesigns. The weather has been very wet here for last 5 or 6 days. Some courses have been closed the last 2 days. Another possibility would be Pilgrims Oak, a Michael Hurdzan design, about a half hour drive. Try www.pilgrimsoak.com

Hershey is even a major championship venue as Byron Nelson won the 1940 PGA Championship at Hershey.

Some good ones mentioned so far and I'd concur that Hershey-West, Iron Valley, and Pilgrim's Oak are worth seeing.

Another you might want to consider is Galen Hall GC, which is 9 holes by Alex Findlay and 9 by Tillinghast, including the famous Moat hole.  It's low-key, quirky, cheap, accessible mostly by highway, and definitely old school.
