Any idea who designed it?  It opened summer of 1955...the new owners dont know.

Thanks,

Jay - I grew up in Utica and played Crestwood a number of times so I'll be interested if you find out! - Dan

Jay:

Curious about your interest in Crestwood?  I grew up in Whitesboro, NY and my high school was almost across the street from Crestwood.  I played it countless times and the son of a dear friend of mine was the super there for several years.  My dad has played it for the past 25 years with his league.

I have no record of the designer...but as I recall, there isn't much out there to write home about?

My family have been members there since 78.  There's some really good holes on the back (11, 12, 15 is a great 4 and 1/2 (its really a five), 16 is a brute of a par-4.  2 was always a strong hole.

No special reason, I'd just like to know who did the course I grew up on...

Jay,

I've done a bunch of this stuff on courses that are hardly renowned.

Might I suggest first trying to understand the ownership history.  You might also contact the local or county historical society.  Last resort is to plow through microfiche of newspapers from the township during the timeperiod it was built.

For instance, did you know that John Benincasa designed Gilbertsville GC in PA in 1966?  I had to track him down in Florida to find that little tidbit, lest that important information be lost to the ages.  ;)

Seriously, I love doing that stuff...sorta like Indiana Jones for couch potatoes.  ;D

Ownership history turned up dead end.  Thought I'd try here to see if the treehouse had the answer quickly.  Can't do my own Indiana Jones act...too many irons in the fire.  Besides, wouldn't it be "Indiana Jones for chili-dippers?" 8)
