18th hole at today's Wachovia tournament
« on: May 07, 2006, 09:40:43 PM »
saw some of today's event and I guess there were some really big numbers there...and 8, and I think Goosien hit three in the water for a 9

creek almost looked like it was running right down the middle of the fairway!

anyway played there?
199 played, only Augusta National left to play!

i didn't see it.  but the low score today was 69.  and Vijay shot 81.  i wonder when the last time that was.

apparently playing pretty tough.  and i tell ya what, i used to not like Furyk, but i think he's a heckuva player.  and i think he'll win another major.

Watched some of it, including Goosen's 9.

The 18th is 480 yards with that creek in play all the way down the left. Adam Scott bombed his drive and had an eight-iron to the green. In the rain. Unbelievable.

Is it just me...?
Or does the Creek offer no real strategic value to this golf hole.
I feel it could have been much better employed - perhaps as a more obvious crossing hazard or as giving stronger visual clues as to the best, or better, angle of attack to the green.
It appears to me (insert 'Mucci-declaration' here) that it only really punishes a poorly hit or chosen drive (or three, Mr. Goosen!)
Maybe if they created a wee bit of fairway over on the left hand side and chose a pin position or two to encourage even the small strategic choice of going that way, I'd be more impressed.

Missed opportunity for me...

Washed the people coal-black from the hole in the ground.

No, the exact same question entered my thoughts while watching the coverage. As you write... a missed oppourtunity.
