From an article in the November, 1914, issue of Golf Illustrated titled, "Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - A Pioneer Golfer," we learn that he actually designed the first golf course in Jasper:
“When Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was at Jasper, Lieutenant-Colonel Rogers conceived of the idea of having Sir Arthur lay out the golf links for this park… The illustration shows Sir Arthur laying out the golf links in the midst of the primeval forest. Wit the engineer’s rod in his hand Sir Arthur looks a pioneer, and indeed he is, for he has the honor and distinction of laying out and striking the first ball on Canada’s most northern golf links… The illustrations all show the journey made by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle… and party on the day the golf links were laid out by Sir Arthur… Unfortunately the war has stopped this noble work for a time… May the day come again, when in peace, both Sir Arthur and Lieutenant-Colonel Maynard Rogers, may play a royal game on the golf links at Jasper.”
