The 9th hole at Hannastown gets me more than any other.  The hole is only 410 yards downhill, but it also plays into the wind frequently and has OB right that sneaks in as the hole lengthens.

The tee shot is always a question for me.  If I hit a driver, I can carry the hollow that runs across the fairway leaving a simple shot in.  But if I hit it left or right, I'm in trees where I have no shot.  So, I hit three wood which leaves me in the hollow and I have a blind shot to a green that runs away.  If I miss the fairway there, I can get over the trees on the top of the hill, but judging the distance the ball will release is a problem.  Then, because the green slopes away so severely, it is hard to hold as you get further back.  It is one tough little par 4 and I'm still not sure how to play it.

I love to baffle people, but not with silly tricks like misorienting the tees -- I'm sure we've done it somewhere but it was just an accident.  And really, if something like that baffles you, you must not be too bright.

TLavin:  I don't know what you're talking about on 18 at Lost Dunes, I always crush my tee shot on that hole (but I rarely play it all the way back).

Brian Cenci:  Re: 13 at Crystal Downs, going long is usually good EXCEPT to the front pin.  When the pin's in front, you'd better miss the green to the right and never past the hole.  In fact I've made more threes on that hole by missing the green to the right and chipping or pitching in (maybe four times) than by one-putting (maybe once or twice).

Maybe the golf course architect is trying to test your intelligence ;). If your sketch is to scale he’s giving you lots of options with the driver to get into trouble  - however if you layup in front of the trees you only have a low iron to make the green.
I ‘d play 2x a seven iron.
Or is hitting a seven iron off the tee on a Par 4 not real golf ? ???
