Isle of Purbeck GC Website

A cool name for a golf course.  And a new revamped website with pics galore.

Golf on a true heath.  And with perhaps England's prettiest hole-the 5th (similar to the 5th at Portrush but even more spectacular)

Samples of pics:

Good to see that true heathland bunkers are still alive at Purbeck (unlike some of its counterparts in Surrey).

Isle of Purbeck is the area name , about 60 sq mi., bounded on 3 sides by water. The course is in a nature preserve. It brings back pleasant September memories, like bouncing my drive across the narrow bridge on 13. Very strong par 3s and a clubhouse with some very old fossils who were not members. Don't catch it on a windy day!

Hugely overrated course. Some nice holes, and one or two excellent ones, but most holes are average at best. Condition is terrible. If in the area - which is excellent for golf, try Broadstone, Parkstone, and Ferndown before I of P.

Maybe I just caught it on a bad day, but no-one in our group liked it.

I played there many years ago (early '80s?) and remember it being in good condition then. The views were certainly spectacular.

Other good course in the Poole/Bournemouth area include Brockenhurst Manor in the New Forest. The two municipal courses in Bournemouth (Meyrick Park and Queens Park) were always worth playing then although I couldn't attest to their condition now.
2014 to date: not actually played anywhere yet!
Still to come: Hollins Hall; Ripon City; Shipley; Perranporth; St Enodoc

It also took us 5 1/2 hours to get round, and it wasn't even a weekend! All in all a bad experience, but maybe I should go back. I don't think it was expensive.

I may be wrong, but 3 of the above 5 pictures are of the same hole.

Another great find Paul, do you know the design history?  The website only mentions Enid Blyton's connections.

How long a drive would it be to get there from London?  I'm over in August and as well as Deal, Sandwich and a couple of heathland courses, i'd love to get out of the city and find a quiet course like this one.

How far away from London are Burnham&Berrow, Royal West Norfolk or Saunton?
