New Golf Courses to Open in 2006

Can we put together a list of architectually significant courses to open this year?

I know of:

Erin Hills
Dismal River
Ballyneal

Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

I can't tell from Tom Ds web site whether Rock Creek Cattle Club opens this year or not.

Bright's Creek in NC opens it's first course in June i think, it's a Fazio but the views are pretty amazing and the architecture seems pretty good as well.

I believe Bayonne Golf Club, NJ (www.bayonnegolfclub.com), not far from Liberty National, is also set to open this summer.  

They are very upfront about their desire to present a links golf experience there.

I didn't even know this project was in the works--you seem
to always be "in the know."  :)

They mentioned they'd analyzed the maint. budgets for such well-though-of clubs like Merion, Stonewall, Philly Cricket etc
and aimed to be in that league maint-wise. (Do clubs share that type of info??)

Jack Frost Nat'l is opening in the Poconos. Anyone seen that
project yet?

The Rock Creek Cattle Co. will not be opening this year....probably sometime next year. They plan to begin seeding in a month or two.

I'm going out there next week, and I might have something to report....

Not with just anyone, but Chip Lutz is highly involved with the project and he has plenty of friends at those places.  From what I have heard the member tees are 6900 yards and there is lots of elevation change down and up :o

Centennial in Medford OR opens in May. By John Fought in the classic Donald Ross style?. So classic it may have room for some houses.

Jim Engh's website shows the following projects to open soon:

Montalcino Resort, Napa, CA (18 hole resort)
Four Mile Ranch, Canyon City, CO (18 hole public)
Carne Golf Links, Belmullet, Ireland (9 hole addition public)

Jack Nicklaus' golf design firm has a huge number of projects under construction, with perhaps 35-40 scheduled to open this year.  There's one in Grants Pass, OR.

This July the Nicklaus designed Valley Course will be the second course to open at Promontory-The Ranch Club in Park City, UT

Doesnt say anything specifically about the golf course opening date, but it does say the resort is intended to open in Mid 2008.

Thanks for mentioning this - I was unaware of this project.

I honestly thought you were joking. Nicklaus Design really has 100+ projects in development. They have what 5 designers, is that not a little overkill? Don't their clients see this as a bit negative?

The Mines in Grand Rapids..  Designed by our own Mike DeVries.

I consider this a must-see for 2006.

If any GCA'ers wanna try the Angels Crossing/Mines 36 hole day, we should set something up.  I think Pilgrim's Run is also another possibility.
