If You Could Make One Change...

If you could make one change to Augusta, what would it be?

File mine in the Trivial Dept:
Those small tress with the dots of pine straw at the base. Never liked the look of those circles at the base of trees anywhere. I'd strip out the grass and have the trees sitting in solid blocks of straw.

Cut the rough, and let the ball run where it will...

Tony Ristola,

The problem with your thinking is that if there was no buffer and it was grass surrounding the trees, the mowers might hit and damage the trees, injuring or killing the trees and damaging the equipment and injuring the operator.

When you use minimum wage labor to groom a golf course you're not going to get perfection and accidents do happen.

That's why greens shrink and fairways move over time.

Sometimes you have to look at architectural features in the context of maintainance, not aesthetics or playability.

I would remove all of the trees planted in the last five or so years and restore the rough to its former self, but, I still haven't gotten the call asking for my advice.

And, I would have introduced the new, "Masters" competition ball.

Tony - I'd suggest that Hootie work with Mr. Ben Crenshaw on future adjustments instead of Mr. Fazio.  Nothing gainst Tom F., but Ben sure seems to 'get' AGNC and its history

DanH;

I'd second your suggestion. The added benefit if Hootie and the Boys worked with Crenshaw is just about the only people who would know anyone was working with them would be Hootie and the Boys.

I wouldn't just cut down the new trees, I'd send in BillV with a whole army of lumberjacks with chainsaws.
