Morefar Golf Club
« on: March 17, 2006, 03:03:03 PM »
Has anyone played Morefar?  I believe it's in Brewster, NY, and is ultra exclusive (I'm told they let 12 foursomes out per day, maximum).  Apparently there are lots of Chinese sculptures all over the golf course (in bunkers also).  Does anyone have any info or pictures?

Tim,

I played there once two summers ago.  Really kind of cool because it's so isolated.  I swear I saw a bobcat.  Limited # of foursomes tee off every day so you feel like you have the course to yourselves.  Nice buffet lunch at the turn.

The two nines were built at different times so it's like two nine hole courses architecturally.  The back 9 is more demanding with pretty severe elevation changes.

I heard it is kind of neat. Any history on the name? Japanese or Indian?
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

This is the course that has been owned/affiliated for many years by /with AIG, the large insurance conglomerate. It has been used thru the years to entertain large AIG clients and perspective clients. With the corporate house cleaning going on at AIG, it is possible the status of the course may change.

Controlled by ex-executives of AIG, one story has it the course was named for the expression used by the firm's asian clients method of giving directions to the course from manhattan--where its it?  "Morefar, Morefar"

full name is Morefar Back 'o Beyond.

I'm told that the course was built mostly by Chinese people, and when players would drive up and ask where the course, the maintenance workers, in broken English, would say, "More far," and point further down the road.
