It is a fun place to play.
The original front nine is very short with thick rough around the fairways and greens and some tight wooded areas. The smallish greens on the front are fairly slow with moderate slopes. A mid handicapper having a good day with the driver has an opportunity to shoot around par for the front nine. Those that miss the fairways will probably struggle at first with an irrigated thick rough that is more similar to a perfectly manicured lawn that it is to what you typically see on other courses on LI.
KBM's back nine is very different. Large greens, wide fairways and some severe angles that call for varied shot shapes. I think KBM probably had a tight budget but he made the most of it as each hole from 10-17 has at least one shot that gives you a little thrill if you can pull it off. Tee to green is not penal, but the greens especially 10, 12, 15 and 17 are challenging and a good glimpse of the extrememly challenging putting surfaces you will find at his nearby Laurel Links.
Single digits will likeley get bored with the front nine, but overall a fun place for most handicappers.
