Finding past threads - need help please
« on: March 04, 2006, 10:46:07 AM »
I have been trying to use the search feature to find something I wrote a while back.

I also wanted to return to a couple of my favourit threads to re-read them.

Is there a trick to using the search that I don't understand. Does it matter that through a computer problem - most of my posts are now "guest" posts.

What I was looking for was the thread I wrote about playing my son's first game with my father. If anyone has the skills to help me - please do - I would really like to find the thread.

Thanks,

Ian

Ian, I cannot help persay, but have you tried looking at your own profile? There might be a way to see all your own posts.  I'm not sure of that but try it.

I did find it, and bumped it for you. Here's the link if it slips through the cracks.

I also have found that general searches are more effective if you use the advanced search "search as a phrase" option.  For whatever reason, it seems to do a better job than the others.  Also - be sure to adjust the date range.  It is set up a bit akwardly so that when I search, I sometimes find I have not set my time parameters correctly.  Finally, if it is a topic with a lot of posts, be sure to adjust the total number of posts you want to retrieve.  I think the default is 50.

Adam,

Thanks, but that wasn't the one.

The one I was looking for was about my son Cameron's first game. I lost my author name last year (due to computer problems) so I can't back-track my way to it.

Jason,

Thanks, I will try that.

I don't know if the link describes it, but I think it is worth posting again. Google can search for you. Try
