Which course is this? 25
« on: January 31, 2006, 01:52:19 PM »
A Colt course near London - so Paul Turner will have the answer before I've even posted it!  One of two courses on the site, with another almost next door, and quite a well-known course just over the railway from it.  Unusual in ending with a short par 3.

1. 371 4
2. 418 4
3. 165 3
4. 426 4
5. 334 4
6. 493 5
7. 362 4
8. 467 4
9. 480 5

Out 3,516 37

10. 145 3
11. 393 4
12. 210 3
13. 507 5
14. 435 4
15. 430 4
16. 517 5
17. 408 4
18. 152 3

In 3,197 35

Total 6,713 72

Hmm.  Clubhouse built by the Duke of Monmouth, Captain of the King's Forces?

Its name has the same first syllable as two MacKenzie courses (one NLE I believe).

The English Golf Union championships were hosted here for about fifty years.

A club in California with the same name hosted auditions for Big Break IV.

I'm stumped trying to come up with a witty or funny clue.  I can't come up with a picture to post either.

It's also a variety of peach (or is it an apricot?).

And its second syllable is the same as a family of famous golfers and designers.

Apricot I think.

Less abstrusely, it's also a member of a Moslem people of mixed Arab and Berber descent living in MW Africa.

Enough evasion of the truth.  It's the High Course at Moor Park, a frequent host to professional tournaments until fairly recently - I bet Mike Clayton played it competitively.  The clubhouse was built for the Duke of Monmouth who blotted his copybook by leading a rebellion against King James II, losing his head and not, therefore, living long enough to enjoy the apricots.
