Courses with no OOB
« on: December 05, 2002, 07:11:55 AM »
I played Beau Desert recently a hidden gem designed by Herbert Fowler (I'll post some pics once I can fix my scanner!).  No Out of Bounds on the course, not the clubhouse or car park either.

It's obviously fairly rare to have no OOB given the usual space constraints.

But I'd like to know some other good examples.

(Sand Hills is obvious and Pacific Dunes (?))

Paul,
Sand Hills has no stakes of any kind!  8)
That might be even more rare.
Any others out there?

No OB here at The Ocean Course at Kiawah.  Cart paths are in play as are the dunes.  Marshes might be tough, though, as you got to keep an eye out for alligators!

I believe that both courses at CC of North Carolina are OOB free.

Whispering Pines has no OOB. But plenty of other stakes.

And alligators.

Dr Gene,

I will always remember our caddy stating after I asked him if there was an Out of Bounds that "THERE IS NO OUT OF BOUNDS AT NATIONAL GOLF LINKS OF AMERICA SIR."

Yes, Mike. There was a certain aire about that particular gentleman. However, his point was immediately recalled by both of us when this particular thread was first posted.

Pine Valley, I think.  Parking lot and clubhouse are in play as far as I know (as at National).

What happens to a slice over the tracks at the 17th?  Is it impossible to do?  I haven't seen the course, but from aerials...

Jaybrdy

I think Beau Desert is stake free too.

Pardon my ignorance, but where's Beau Desert?
And how do I get there? :)

We had an interesting situation at the 1996 U.S. Junior Amateur at Forest Highlands where the homeowners agreed to keep their houses in play, so there was no out of bounds. (For those not familiar with the Canyon Course, there are houses on the majority of the holes and several roads to cross.)  If a player's ball wound up against a house, he would take immovable obstruction relief just as he would from a rain shelter.

It worked well, except for one anxious moment when a player had to play a pitch shot over a parked Cadillac (whose driver was not to be found)!

Another interesting case similar to John's happened at the Tradition a few years ago when a player hit a shot into a swimming pool.  There was no OB on the course at Desert Mountain so he got a free drop.

Black Butte's Glaze Meadow doesn't have any OB either.

Joel,

Are you sure that Olympic CC (Lake) has no OB?  I've only been there during the US Open, but it seems to me that the left of 13,14 and 15 would be OB at some point.
