Should they keep it ????
« on: December 12, 2005, 04:37:42 PM »
I saw this while looking at Jeff Mingay's site. It is the 300 yard 15th hole at Sagebrush. Should Jeff and Rod Whitman keep the barn structure in tact and build/play over/around it ?

Depending on how far from the tee to "it" and the "it" to green, I'd say it might make for a very interesting hazzard of sorts...unique to say the least!

What are the chances the tee could be moved to the left a bunch? It looks like much more treachery for the mishit, and an opportunity for the shorter guy to bring it in off the hill if the tee were left. Then, the shack isn't such an issue if it stays...which, if possible, it should.

Cool greensite. I like the overall presentation.

How about moving it and making it a halfway house or a bathroom?
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

It already looks like a "half-of-a-house" ...

I'd say keep it ... it will help define the choices off the tee ... aim left and end up with a potential sidehill lie, or over the shack with room to the right and an uphill approach ...

I'm all for preservation, but that thing looks a little ramshackle.  If somebody sneezes too hard it'll end up as woodchips!

If it were a bush, a shrub or a clump of stumps it would be cleared -- and those are natural features. This unremarkable, non-historic shack will serve no golf purpose except to stymie Mrs. Havacamp when she foozles her tee-shot. Use it for firewood.

Rick -

I'm going to put even money that the shack is older than some of the surrounding trees ... it may be unremarkable, non-historic to you but I will bet my winnings and guess that some young lad my have entertained a cowgirl in the shack some time ago ;)

Rick,

How right you are, but here in Carmel it might go for half a mill.

Funny post, Mike!

That building is ready to fall down, and I don't think the money guys on this project are going to be interested in "restoring" the old shack for preservation!

Interesting thought though.

I'm sure that old wood structure might provide some inspiration when it comes to naming that particular hole, which I like to do.

There's Abandoned Well, the seventh at Blackhawk GC. How about Abandoned Shack  ;D

Any other ideas?

Mike --

Historic to the young cowboy, certainly. And by that yardstick, the first bedroom to the right of the stairs on the second floor of my college fraternity house should be on the National Historic Register. ;)

Bob --

You could put it on the shore of Gull Lake near Brainerd, Minnesota and it would go for a half mil, too.

The driving angle is very similar to the 17th at TOC   ;)

As for naming the hole and a tie-in to my previous post, borrowing from the B-52's, the only appropriate name would be "The Love Shack" ... :o

I have it on good authority(Someone who stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last Night and authenticates Pine Valley artifacts sold on Ebay) that that shack was the childhood home of one Max Behr. WWMD   ;D ;D

The wood in that thing wouldn't even keep a campfire burning all night.  Donate it to the Hillbilly Tour (rm) and fuggetaboutit.
