Tom Paul Milestone
« on: November 12, 2005, 08:55:53 PM »
On November 30, 2005, the great TE PAUL will celebrate the fifth anniversary of his registration on GCA.com.  Shortly before that momentous anniversary, he will have posted his 20,000th post.  That's 5,000 per year for five years, or almost 14 posts per day, every day, for 1,821 days.  And, as you all know, these are not just quicky observations.  Several could be submitted to the New Yorker, which has been seriously lacking for golf wisdom since the passing of Herb Wynd.
So, at 9:58 a.m. est. (the exact time Mr. Paul first logged on), I propose that we all raise a glass of orange juice (vodka
or champaign optional) to toast this marvelous achievement.  I am sure that his mother is very proud.

I apologize for my faulty math.  That's 20,000 posts for 4 years, or 1461 days.  The achievement remains monumental.  Cheers, Skol, Lechiam, Salut!

Jim Baby:

Your math is wrong. I came to this website on its day One. I recall I came over from that other site that I only read that failed. I seem to remember GeoffShac told me this one was starting up. That was in June of 1999, the beginning of GOLFCLUBATLAS.com. I don't remember when I registered and posted but it was in 1999 over six years ago. Maybe I will get to 20,000 posts and maybe I won't. There're a lot of my posts in those back pages that need to be deleted and as some know basically only I can do that. :)

But thank you for your recognition of the 20,000 post milestone if I get to it some day. Much appreciated.  ;) I remain, as always, a huge fan of GOLFCLUBATLAS.com and I still have very high hopes for its future and the contributions it can make to golf course architecture. Having said that, however, I do miss some of the old contributors who seem to be gone now. I wish they would come back.

Jim --

I sure as hell wouldn't bet on it!

Check out my post #79 on the Sebonac (sic) thread, about 10 o'clock this morning -- when our Esteemed Senior God was at 19,989. He's lower than that now, once again!

The thing I wonder about: How is he deciding *which* of his posts are expendable?

I certainly hope he's not excising any stock-car drivers or debutantes!

Tom is the life force of this site.

I will be honored and pleased to toast him on his fifth anniversary.

(I don't drink orange juice, so would it be ok if I raise my cup of joe?)

It looks to me like my first post on this site was August 31, 1999 a couple of months after this unique website shocked, angered, delighted and shook up the theretofore placid waters of the world of golf course architecture and golf course architects, committees, clubs, wackos and other architecturally irresponsible caretakers as this brigade of wingnuts (as B. Crosby calls us) enter the international scene to protect and preserve it all for the rest of time.

Listen Mr. Paul, your job is to humbly arrive at this party, not tell us how or when to throw it.

If we are going to throw a 5th anniversary and 20,000 post celebration for you on your 6 1/2 anniversary and 19,943 post (and dropping) mark you will enjoy it.

p.s. 20,000 words on the full slate of architectural contributors (and their contributions, of course) to Pine Valley would be much appreciated. ;)

Sully,

How about if we start with Flynn's work there and fill in the rest after the book deadline  ;)

Wayne:
How can Tommy do the work for the Flynn Book if he is so busy posting on GCA ;D ;).
Tommy keep up the good work.

Sounds good Wayne, he could probably get in 20,000 before breakfast anyway. :o

While Tom's importance to GCA.com is undeniable, we can't finish the Flynn book without him.  Can we run a "GCA.com, The Best of Tom Paul" while he completes his book work?  Somebody can compile Tom's brightest and funniest stories on golf, architecture, politics, debutantes, his cover photo on Life magazine, etc.

Tom Paul says:

"however, I do miss some of the old contributors who seem to be gone now. I wish they would come back."

Dr. Katz was overheard in the 19th hole at our club saying,"I'm not posting again on that wretched website until Mr. Paul begins getting to the point a little more quickly."

Not my view, Tom -- his.

I love ALL your posts, even the ones written after a few shooters.

I also most enjoy TEP when he applies a bit of flask posting.  Tillie had nothing on Tom for liquid inspiration and creativity.  I'll be hoisting a glass on the 20K day. ;D 8)

Is there a higher level than YABB God?  Does it kick in at 20,000 posts, or perhaps higher?  I guess such a level was not postulated in the initial days of GCA.

Perhaps 'The Guru' is an appropriate title.

Perhaps, in the context of Dr. Wayne W Dyer, one just becomes "the source".

But of course TE Paul is "The Source" ;).  Pat Mucci told me so ;D
