Bill,
I remember you disagreeing with my thoughts on Hidden Creek when we played PV, so it does not surprise me that you do not like OS as much as I do.

Unfortunately, I was unable to visit OS during a recent visit to Boston, but I will say this.

If OS is as good as BGC, then it's one of the best 5-10 courses built in modern times in my estimation.

BGC is a stunning, bold achievement.

That would be an appropriate characterization in my mind.

Ben,

Then I really, really need to get back there in the spring.

Thanks for your assessment.

Steve,
I played those three as well this year, but Sand Hills really stood out...:)

Which do you prefer Steve?

I hope you will be visiting me, along with Erik.

If you make the trip to Sand Hills, you'll be halfway to Bandon.....

Eric,

I want to get out there soon as well, I need a benevolent benefactor though.  ;)

That picture of OS looks a lot like the view from the tee of Pine Valley number 11, doesn't it?

Steve,

I think I would like the looks and, probably, the playability of that last pic better if the entry side of the bunkers was mowed short to sands' edge.

Steve,

I don't know when your picture of PV #11 was taken, but a bunch of trees have been removed from there that makes it even look more the OS picture.

I was fortunate to play both BGC and OS in Oct. and although it was a little rainy I enjoyed both courses immensely.  BGC is set up to be hard and fast and has a lot of quirkiness that will make it a little more controversial in my book.  Gil Hanse did a tremendous job with a very difficult piece of property to work with (C and C turned the project down).  I don't think it quite measures up to Old Sandwich however which is "the bomb".  Big and bold it is like a master painting, and incredibly crafted in a natural setting that required almost no movement of dirt.  This old hunting preserve is an awesome setting and the facilities are the best.
Anyone able to experience either course will not be disappointed!!!
P.S.   Thanks very much for the beautiful pictures.

Steve,

We have a telehandler on sight for tree trimming, logging, and building construction.  I have a series of photos I'm going to post over the weekend.  This one is my current favorite.

Cheers!

Wow Jim, you can really make out the contours in the 9th green from your picture.  Very nice!  Looking forward to seeing the rest of them...looks like you have the course looking great.   Do you have a similar angle of the 6th or 8th greens?

How's the new 9 coming along?

Steve,

Your reply #40 with the Tillinghast quote about birches
reminded me of a course that I played
as a kid in western Mass near Williamstown
that had gorgeous birch trees-- Waubeeka Springs.
Have you played it (if it still exists)?
Really spectacular in the fall.
