Peachtree

Has anyone played this course recently or if ever?  I am heading down there in about a week to tee it up and I don't think I have ever seen a single picture of the course.  I believe it is a RTJ/RTJ course with very little changed over the years?  Is this true?

What is the atmosphere like at the club.  Is this a course that gets no use ala a Chicago GC or is it more like a Garden City where they get out there and use the course.

Any thoughts or feedbacks greatly appreciated.

I've lived in Atlanta for 25 yrs., and not only have never played it, but only have one friend that has.  Ultra-private, very small membership.  When you drive by the course, you never seen anyone playing it.  I know more people that have played ANGC than Peachtree.

I went there for the Walker Cup opening ceremonies in 1989. It was quite nice. Atlanta is a series of ridges and the course is built on one of those ridges.

I recently bought the Club History book on Ebay done by Furman Bisher in 2004 for a relatively cheap price. Plenty of great pictures of Bobby Jones, RTJ sr, and the course. RTJ wrote ""The course came to typify what can be called the American School of golf design"- massive greens, landing strip tees, and vast fairways. It was at the time probably the longest golf course in the country."

To me the architectural look of the course is similar to the Dunes (which RTJ sr completed around the same time) or Golden Horseshoe except with Maintenance at a much higher standard.

I played it and liked it, didn't love it.  The first hole may be the best hole but the 2nd hole is really fun.  David Eger thought the land was better than Augusta but the course didn't come out as well.

It plays through the trees on most holes and is rolling hills.  I believe most people ride, we walked with caddies and its a long walk.  Its typical Jones Sr., big greens and tees, wide fairways, big bunkers.  A few creeks, a few ponds, and in good condition.

Its easy to find, stuffy membership.  They have some type of room in the clubhouse which shows a movie about Jones and the club but I missed it.
