redanman,

Thank you!!!

I'm very excited about making it to the US Mid-Am at the Honors Course.  I've never been to Tenn., but I've heard great things about the course.

John,

I look forward to seeing you as well.

All aboard for the Chatanooga Cho Cho,, woo woo... :o ;D 8)

Jaimie, are you going to be a hardcore GCA type and linger on after the toon-a-mint to play the other architecture gems, Lookout and Black Creek?  Good luck there! 8)

Way to go, again.

How was the British Mid Am?

Dick, the second course for the Mid-Am is Black Creek so Jamie will definitely see plenty of it.  On top of that, the Mid-Am Committee's pre-championship tournament (known as the Zirpoli Cup) will be played at Lookout Mountain on Friday.  So, I get to see both of them.  On top of that, we've been told we can play Black Creek during the week when we don't have a match to referee. ;D

How was the British Mid Am?

George,

The British Mid-Am was great. I hit the ball well enough to make Match Play, but unfortunately, I putted like Ray Charles after a double expresso, and missed the cut by 2 shots. ;D

Muirfield was absolutely fantastic.  It is just a great championship test of golf.  Because it's a links course, it is very difficult to compare it to the great courses here in the US, but it just may be the finest golf course I've ever played.  It is very demanding on all aspects of your game, but it is also very fair as well.  The best part...I was able to play 4 rounds at Muirfield for the low, low cost of the 35 pound entry fee(about $65)...not a bad deal. :)  I also played North Berwick West and Dunbar my last two days there.  N Berwick West I had played a couple of years ago, but this was the first time I had played Dunbar.  Dunbar is a great links course about 12 miles east of N Berwick.  The highlight of Dunbar is 14 consecutive holes that run along a thin piece of land between a really large and long stone wall and the Ocean. It is just a spectacular setting.

Way to go, Jamie!

Sounds like you're having a wonderful summer...Muirfield, The Honors Course, North Berwick, Black Creek, Lookout Mountain, et.al...

Now, would you care to expound on the architectural virtues of Wedgwood?  ;D

Bill,

The cut was at +10, 152.

I hit 12 greens in round 1 and 13 greens in round 2, and shot 77 both days.  To say I was frustrated on the greens would be an extreme understatement. >:(

Except for the afternoon of round 1, the weather was pretty calm for Scotland.  We had 2 rain/wind squalls blow through during my back nine the first day.  Other than that, the weather conditions we quite good.

I particularily like the way that you (At least I've  had a time or two) fear putting into bunkers at RCEG (Muirfield).  8)

Bill,

I wouldn't have minded being afraid of putting into the bunkers, for some reason my ball was afraid of being putted into the CUP!

Absolutely, and now that you've played one of the late Garrett Renn's finest designs you can discuss his work intelligently when gathering with architectural cognsecenti..  ;)

John,

Being lazy, when is the Mid-Am?

I have a friend closing on a condo at Black Creek who is joining and asking me to come over to play it with him.   Just wondered when you all will be down there?

Darryl,

The Mid-Am runs from September 10 to 15.  I'll be getting into Chattanooga sometime on the 6th.  Playing the Honors on the 7th and Lookout Mountain on the 9th.  If someone wants to play somewhere on the 8th let me know.  I'm fully booked on the 10th and 11th at the championship.  After that, I'll be refereeing one or more matches a day through the 14th and then go all 36 on the 15th before heading for Pittsburgh that night.

Since I'm driving down, if anyone is available for golf somewhere between Pittsburgh and Chattanooga on the 5th or 6th let me know.  As I see it there are at least 3 different ways I can get there so I'm pretty flexible.  I could possibly also get a game in on the 16th on the way home if it isn't too far out of my way.

8th is no good for me I am down in Charleston for some golf, but if it works out we might be able to get out to Musgrove Mill over in Greenville if you are interested on your way back on the 16th.

It is a few hours out of your way to Greenville, but take a look at it and let me know if you think it might be something you are interested in.  I will check my schedule more closely.

Well done Jamie! Obviously it was jet lag on that front nine. ;D

It was good to see you at Muirfield. I agree with your observations about the course, and we definitely got a big break with the weather. Daniel Perrett has now won it twice in a row while camping--on the beach at Hoylake last year, and in a field near North Berwick this year!

Good luck at Honors Jamie, play great.

Now to the new news on this thread, DANIEL PERRETT HAS WHAT?

Make sure you have a Budweiser (or a Miller Genuine Draft) with Bogey Hendren while down in the great state of Tennessee!

Sully,

Isn't that something.  The officer from the R&A mentioned it during the Cocktail reception.  Apparently, Perrett won last year while sleeping in a tent on the beach at Hoylake.  The joke was this year he was very serious about defending his title, because he upgraded, and was now bunking in a camper trailer in a nearby field.

So...based on Perrett's success....naturally I'm going to skip the amenities of the Chattanooga Hilton and going to try to find the local RV Park instead. ;D

Jamie,
My clubs were delivered the night after stroke play ended. Playing with the rental set was tough, but switching back after 3 days was no easier. The shafts were really different, especially in the wood clubs... Tough to play when you have to hit 3-iron off #10!

Now I'm off to get some compensation from KLM...
