Photo technology?
« on: July 28, 2005, 12:01:31 PM »
Being that I'm the type that finds it quite an accompllishment to get my computer turned on and logged in properly you'll understand if these questions prove elementary.

Is it possible to take an aerial photograph of a golf course and then remove selected features from the image such as trees?

If so what ballpark might the photography expense be in?

Thanks for any help.

Jim,

It certainly can be done, and likely with any reasonably-priced software such as Photoshop.  Guys on here who are good at that kind of stuff include Tommy Naccarato, Dunlop White III, and Mike Nuzzo (forgive me those who I left off).

While I've worked with plenty of aerials, I've never done any touch-up work like this (and have never used Photoshop).

Jim,

It is done very often by architects to show where features can be removed or added.  Very easy with software like Photoshop.

I have sent an instant message to you.

Cheers,

Brian.

Scott and Brian,

Thanks for the quick answer, and it sounds like a fairly reasonable expense as well since I already have some photoshop software.

Scott,
Thanks for the mention, your check is in the mail.

Jim,
I will say the regular version of Photoshop is quite powerful.  Tommy has taken instruction and I've used it for years, and there is still quite a bit a few actions and tools buried in those menus.
I use it mostly to modify holes from the players perspective.

When working with an aerial I find it is much more artistic and traditional to use Illustrator.  But it you're trying to hide your work photoshop is the way to go.

If you check my 50 last posts you'll see an example for Cumberwell Park where I did a very quick illustration for fun.

What are you trying to create?

Jim,
If Mike hasn't already helped you out, I would be glad to be of assistance.

Thanks Scott for the plug.
