Wednesday photos (a lot) from the U.S. Open
« on: June 17, 2005, 09:31:08 AM »
Attending Wednesday's practice round with my wife in the 96-
degree heat, luckily a breeze kicked up some to keep it tolerable.

Got there after the early morning players who only played 9
finished and went to the range.

Steve, Hank, and Eldrick:

The range was moved from Maniac Hill to the first two holes on courses 1 and 3 or 5 (?).  Here's the lower tee, with Beem
and Langer to the left of Tiger.

Ian Poulter and Luke Donald in the house:

Beem and Langer:

With a 1 second delay on a digital camera, it's very hard to
catch a swing in motion.  You have to predict and click just
before the swing.  Took me several tries to get this.

A view to the upper tee:

David Leadbetter working with slender "Thurston" Howell III:

Defending champion:

The famous ponytail:

Range show #2 arrives:

Bones lays out towels at 25-yard intervals from Mickelson (via range finder) down the side of the range for him to hit to:

Out to 200 yards:

Rick Smith (yellow) and Dave Pelz observing Phil:

And this starts my quasi-reverse trip around the course.

#17 green from back right.  Fan Favorite Sabbatini is in there somewhere:

Up #18 across #17 green:

Newly-turned pro Spencer Levin on #12 in group that
included Casey Wittenberg and Trip Kuehne:

#11 green, with Monty in white shirt/white visor:

Sabbatini incident while this was snapped.

One more post to go with more pics......

Sergio on #11 after picking up his ball buried in the rough to a
lie he could reach the green with:

#8 being syringed:

Nick Gilliam solo on #7:

I'm missing my nice shot of Stuart Appleby out of the bunker on #6... :-\

My favorite shot of all of these, I caught Robert Allenby at impact on #6.  Notice the hole in the explosion.  This was the
Team Aussie foursome of Appleby, Allenby, Parry, and one other.

Padraig enjoying himself on #6 tee:

He hit two hybrid tee shots and missed the green with both:

Until he switched to an iron and hit the green on only try:

Ryder Cup captain Lehman on #3:

For Tom Paul, DL III:

Bill Glasson on #3 green while it is syringed:

Vijay's approach on #5, at least 50 yards past Nick Price's.  He knocked it to 8 feet.  Then he hit another one and....

...put it inside the first one.  He made both putts.

Price practicing on #5:

Hi, Nick!

You too, Vijay.

Vijay with his weighted practice club:

Having fun:

Enjoy.

All that precise practicing from Mickelson doesn't seem to be
working.  He's 6-over on his front nine today and in danger of
missing the cut if someone goes lower a few strokes or he
loses a couple more.

Thanks for the pics Scott - very enjoyable, and help bring Pinehurst a bit closer to London. ;)

I was wondering about Phil - is anybody watching TV who can explain? It is not as if he had a blow-out - he had six bogies in nine holes. Certainly looks as if the back nine playing a bit tougher than the front.

How many truckers wear Tar Heel (baby) blue hats with Titleist on them?   :)

As if anyone cares now  ::), here's that pic of Appleby in the
bunker I missed the first time.
