Never mind the Turin Shroud...
« on: May 13, 2005, 03:34:27 PM »
...what about the Anstruther Chip wrapper.

Brothers,
I visited the Anstruther Fish Bar last night for my bi-annual Fish Supper with accompanying Brown Sauce and a Pickled Egg. Imagine my great surprise when, after degustation of the finest Haddock and Chips, I discovered this image in plain view on my brown paper wrapper. Crafted in the finest Scottish chip grease, it clearly shows the Good Doctor in his most heavily moustachioed period.
I am considering auctioning this fine artwork on ebay, but might be interested in receiving offers from my friends here a GCA in the first instance.

And they say the truth is stranger than fiction...

This is very disturbing, something that that concerns me greatly ... you only go to Anstruther's TWICE a year ... ? (I went there 3 times in a week ...)

Martin,

Some on this group would sooner speak ill of the Lord than dare criticize the courses of Dr. Mackenzie, so perhaps there is something to his messianic complex.  ;)

Are you sure that's not a handkerchief and you had a simple head cold?  ;D

Martin -

You are right to be excited. It is unquestionably the real thing.

I had an eerily similar experience. I had eaten at the Varsity here in Atlanta.  After my meal, I noticed that the paper in which my onion rings had been wrapped showed - quite distinctly - the outline of several of the onions.

You can imagine my excitment.

Geez Martin, this may be the basis of a whole new religion.  Or, at least a cult or sect.  The MacKenzites.  You can't just auction it off.  You need to heretically seal it behind bullet proof glass and donate it to the Royal and Ancient.

If I come and touch this phenomenon, will it cure my slice?  Does Anstruther have a menu selection called, "holy mackerel"?

Sometimes you scare me, Marty... :-\ ;D :o

Martin - you should be ashamed of yourself.  ;D
Only twice a year for Fish and Chips!!  When I'm back 'home', I'll have fish usually once a day.  I must admit I am partial to the odd Haggis Supper too.

It is refreshing in these changing times, to see fish & chips served in paper, they way they should be.  I don't miss the newsprint, though.

I think the image is a fake.  If it was real it would have tears, if not from some of the remodelling jobs on his courses, then from the vinegar.

A fake? A FAKE???

Davie,
or is it MR. Sneddon? (A right Calvinistic Presbyterian moniker if ever I heard one!), how dare you be so heretical as to question the obvious authenticity of this (now) deeply religious artifact.

Sir, refute your slanderous suggestions forthwith or expect the wrath of righteous vengeance (or a visit from the Spanish Inquisition - whichever comes first)....

PS Uncle Dicky, nice double-entendre there. 'Heretically' sealed instead of herMetically. Why, you sly old fox!

Martin,

So are you saying that your chief weapons are fear, surprise, and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope?

I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition!

Marty, I confess it was more Freudian than witty. ::)

But the key is I confessed...spare me, I repent. Gallileo was wrong, the world is flat and the center of the universe.  And, MacKenzie's spirit of ST Andrews was obviously sent back on your greasy brown paper as a sign from the beyonds to deliver us from evil GCA.  There is little time left, I fear.

And you're quite right,  Presbyterian, brought up attending Dunfermline Abbey, listening to the fire and brimstone of the Rev Robert Dollar.
