Hi from...where am I...?
« on: January 31, 2005, 12:06:13 AM »
Hi Friends,

Tom Paul asked me a great question a few minutes ago - "Matt - Where the hell have you been?"

I now live in Manhattan, and I'm in grad school for psychology at Columbia University. That's the good news.

The bad news is, I haven't played a round of golf since July. Manhattan has been bad for my golf game.

Here is a quick timeline since the last time I spoke to many of you:

-December 2002: Returned from Australia

-May 2003: Graduated from University of Oklahoma

-Summer 2003: Worked at amazing summer camp at Stanford; went back in 2004 and will be there in 2005.

-September 2004: Moved to San Francisco, worked at a group home with violent kids. Only got hit in the face twice. Played some golf in the spring. Hit a 427-yard drive at Roddy Ranch.

-August 2004: Everything I owned (golf clubs, clothes, etc.) stolen from my car.

-September 2005: Moved to Manhattan. Living on campus at Columbia. I have my own room. It's this big --->  []

Honestly, things have been rough since I moved here. I'm unsure about a lot of things (especially my career) and very far from a lot of things that have always been there for me (golf, the West Coast). I'm really starting to miss golf.

So that's my short story. I'd love to catch up with people I haven't spoken to in a while. And, if anyone in NYC is reading this, please say hello!

Cheers,
Matt Cohn

Matt,

Assuming you are without a car at Columbia, you will need to find some friends with cars, unless you only want to play Mosholu in The Bronx near the 4 train ! Contact me off-line, and we can set you at a bunch of places to play, but my first suggestion is to go to Matt Ward's meeting in February at Essex County CC where you will meet many locals. I will be arriving late, but Matt can probably suggest a ride from someone.

Matt,

We did try and warn you that anywhere after Melbourne would be a downgrade.

Hi Matt, Ive lived in Manhattan for well over 20 years and I
am very in to GCA. Sorry your adjustment has been challenging but how are your professors. Please call me if I
can be of any help. I live on west 50th about a 25 minute bus
ride from Columbia.

Matt Cohn,

Your golf clubs and clothes can be found in TEPaul's barn.
Third stall from the entrance, on the right, behind the feed bags.

Don't let him know that I tipped you off.

Mike Sweeney gave you good advice.

Perhaps you'll be able to get to the GCA.com outing in the spring as well.

Matt,
I was just looking at a scorecard from a round almost five years ago to date in Palm Springs with you!

Let me know if you at the same email, my last one got bounced back.

Best,
Ben
