9-Holer Week continues....

SI called yesterday's course the best 9-holer in the U.S.  
Others have given today's course that moniker.

That opening hole looks l o n g (I can relate).

This is the one that Ben Crenshaw likes the 9th hole so well.  Bears a certain resemblance to the 4th at Yale, so Ben must like elbow holes right over water.   I like the first.  The character of the ground on that hole is obviously invisible from this altitude.


The name of the course does not imply segregationist tendencies.

There is a bell to ring on the fifth after you hit your approach shot (blind landing area).

The shadowing on #9 looks like a steep hill that could
be 'turbo-boosted' for a short approach.

This one is difficult to give clues for.

I'm thinking Massachusetts, but even though I grew up there I never really heard of any high quality 9-holers.

Great clues, but I haven't one.... :(

I played my Mass. Am. Qualifier here last summer.  The course was very fun I thought, especially holes 2, 6, 8, 9.  We played on a misty, humid day, and the scores were very low.  You had to shoot 72 to get into a playoff for the alternate spots, and i missed by 5.  They had us play the whites the first go-round, and the blues the second.

This is Whitinsville, in Whitinsville, MA, designed by Donald
Ross.  Some have called Whitinsville one of the two best 9-
holers in the U.S. (Dunes was not one of them).


other clues include:

"name of the course does not imply segregationist

"Archie's 'appleseed' area" refers to where Ross 'spread his
seed', in New England, mostly in MA and RI.

"How do you know when a blonde has tried to delete

I had never heard of this course before today. looks fun.

where is the tee for the 9th? to the left of 8 green? is that
a body of water?

a great idea for making this 18, would be to play it backwards. it looks like it would be fun, and doable.

Honestly, though, hasn't Ross routed 18 holes on a similarly sized parcel?   ;D

9th tee looks just NW of 8th green, and tee shot looks to be over the water/cove.
