These pictures are on the club's website. They were taken by a professional photographer.

They are taken from different angles, so it might be hard to recognise which holes they are at first. I think you have most of them right, Sean.

TK - if it's any consolation, winds there were 100 mph gusts the other day. Freezing out there too.

Great pictures Jack - many thanks. How do you rate Carne compared to the courses at Rosapenna and Ballyliffin?

And does one call it Carne, or Belmullet?

Hi Philip

The course is called Carne Golf Links, but the club is called Belmullet Golf Club. I suppose it's the club in residence there, as the course is owned by the tourist board.

I haven't played the new Rossapenna, so I couldn't really compare them. It is different to any other course in Ireland, I think. A very unique design, which can be good or bad, depending on your viewpoint.

On the back nine, the holes go up and down. Many hills and extreme swales, espeically on the 18th. Very simple greens and very simple bunkers. I think there's only 18 bunkers on the whole course. Lots of blind shots.

Many think it's the best course they've ever played, but some don't like it at all.

I think the new nine will really benefit the course, assuming it's done right. That said, it's going to built within the dunes again, so I hope it won't be too much.

     That #17 boomerang green looks impossible to hold. Is that true when it is played? BTW it is "Miss July" in Lambrecht's 2005 calendar.

No, it isn't hard to hold, but it is hard to hit. On the left is a shaggy dune, while on the right is a large, very large swale. The green is very long, though. It is effectively two different greens as it bends around the swale.

There is also a dune at the back if you go too long. You would be hitting anything from a nine iron to a three wood depending on the wind and which tee you're hitting off.

Jack, thanks for the pics. I was there in September and while it is quite remote, it is worth the drive.  The back 9 might be one of the best 9's in golf.
