"Tom Paul.
You’re dead right, we need to ask SGH what is going on. Any volunteers?"

Marc:

Don't give me any of this "we" stuff!  ;) You're over there aren't you? If so, I think I just heard you volunteer to call them and ask them why they messed up their famous bunkers on #8 (and perhaps the rest of the course) and what they plan to do about it! Tell them GOLFCLUBATLAS.com is watching them like a hawk and waiting for an answer but that GOLFCLUBATLAS.com isn't going to wait much longer before all hell breaks loose!  :)

All right, all right, I’ll do it tomorrow.

To be fair, I had an interview with them a couple of years back and they didn’t even have the decency to let me know I didn’t get the job so I guess I’ve got an axe to grind.

You will?? Well, then, Marc Haring, you're a gentleman and a scholar and one with a considerable amount of guts, I might add!

Marc Haring,

Outsider frontal assaults rarely result in candid, in-depth responses.

Based on my read of the SGH website, you'll get nothing more then a reinforcing statement regarding the changes.

You need a mole.  ;D

Patrick. That's brilliant and very astute. A great piece of psychological website reading.

As for a mole, I might have just the man. Leave it with me.

Gentlemen.

Sorry for the delay but I have the requested information.

The bunker rebuilds including the 8th, were carried out "in house" by the previous superintendent. That would explain the ease of maintenance influence. No designer was employed for this operation.

Recently at a greenkeepers get together, the secretary of SGH made a speech where he stated his clubs intention to refurbish all of the bunkers and enquired to his audience if anyone was aware of architects with intimate knowledge of H S Colt bunkering.

It would therefore appear that the clubs honourable intentions are to faithfully replicate the original bunkering and they are looking for some help.

Any offers?

Nice job Marc.

I have plenty of info on Colt's philisophy and vintage pics, so it wouldn't be hard to be accurate.

As for the architect?  I'm sure that some of the architects that frequent this site could do the job well enough.  In the UK, the bunker work I've seen by Steel, on Colt's courses, is poor.  Hawtree did a nice job at Whittington Heath but the bunkers are simpler there.

In the future, please try not to say things like that to Patrick on here! Patrick is hard enough for me to live with on here already. But since you did say it I guess I'm forced to concede that after five years on Golfclubatlas.com his percentage of correct remarks has finally jumped to a whopping 3%! It's about time!
