Feature Interview with Ben Cowan-Dewar is posted
« on: September 30, 2004, 07:53:35 AM »
Starting with last year's Feature Interview with the larger-than-life figure of Adam Clayman, GolfClubAtlas.com, the no. 1 golf architecture web site according to Google, conducts a Feature Interview with a person from each annual gathering.  This year the victim  ;D is Ben Cowan-Dewar, who coordinated the Banff-Jasper outing from his golf travel business Golf TI.

Based in Toronto, Ben shares common traits with many who post here: a) the amount (especially of world) traveling he does is staggering b) he thinks Rod Whitman is a god c) he knows that Stanley Thompson is a god d) he worships Canadian beer and e) his passion for golf course architecture is in the process of cratering his relationship with his significant other. In short, a fine lad!

In his Feature Interview, he shares with us his early golf hole drawings (MacKenzie would not have won his famous contest if BCD was around!) and thoughts on different courses/architects of interest that he has seen in recent times. Never in Toronto for long, Ben is in Ireland as we post this and Australia and New Zealand next month.

For a true world perspective on what's hot in golf architecture, please have a read of this month's Feature Interview. Also, Ben and I will be posting the details on the 2005 GCA.com assault on Casa de Campo sometime in early November.

Cheers,

Dan Herrmann

I'm blessed.  My wife and I are sitting around last night thinking about courses to play in the spring - we won tickets to the Wednesday practice round at the Masters, and we're driving down from Philly.

But back on topic - Thanks for the interview!

Anyway, she says after discounting a course suggestion I made, "You know something - I've become a real golf course architecture snob".

God is truly wonderful!

His golf shoes were very cool too.
Thinking of Bob, Rihc, Bill, George, Neil, Dr. Childs, & Tiger.

I thought the electric green-blue tie Ben wore at the group dinner at the Fairmont took the shoes to task..

I can concur on his opinion of Rod Whitman... his latest at Blackhawk is superb..

Inverness (Toledo, OH) cathedral clock inscription: "God measures men by what they are. Not what they in wealth possess.  That vibrant message chimes afar.
The voice of Inverness"

Ben's frequent flyer miles must be enormous.

But I concurr with all the praise, especially since I threw more than a few loops at the man.

The interview has put Cape Breton Highlands directly within my sights. Thanx

Thanks for the nods, I appreciate them, especially the shoes! As for the tie, it was electric, but gold if I recall...

Thanks again to Ran for asking me to do the interview.
