USGA Slope Rating - Do Par 3 courses receive a slope rating?
« on: September 08, 2004, 03:32:11 PM »
Do any of you guys know the requirements for a course to receive a slope rating from the USGA?

Is it just length or does the course have to have a certain number of Par 4's etc.

Can a Par 3 course receive a slope rating?

Cheers,

Brian.

The usga has a Short Course Rating Procedure:
Definitions:
18 holes less than 3000 yds
9 holes less than 1500 yds
If fewer than 18 holes the average hole would be less than 3000/18

In order to qualify for USGA course and slope ratings, courses longer than 3000 yds for 18 holes mush have one or more "long" hole as follows:

For any combination up to nine holes, there must be at least  one hole that would require a scratch player to hti a full shot - longer than 250 yds.

For any combination greater than 9 holes, there must be at least 2 "long" holes.

Brian:

Hamilton Farm in Gladstone NJ has, I believe, the only one of it's kind in the world

From the Blue Tees (the back tees) Rating: 57.5, Slope 98

Needless to say, it is a complete course with 5 holes over 215 and none shorter than 125.

I'm told that length does play a factor and has prevented it from being rated from the forward (White) tees

Brian,

Golden Horseshoe's Spotswood course plays to a par of 62 at 3,745 yards with a rating of 61.4 and slope of 99. There is actually only nine holes but you play it twice from two different set of tees. Sometimes the hole is a three and sometimes it's a four depending on the set of tees that are being used.

Mountain Shadows in Scottsdale, AZ:

Par 56 yardage3,081
slope/ratings  93/56.9

By the way, this course may NLE as Marriott has closed the Mountain Shadows resort and will be submitting development plans shortly. The real estate is just too valuable in this hot market.
