Sutton Coldfield-Mackenzie Hidden Gem?

Mackenzie's work in England is a bit of a mixed bag.  But this one looks to have natural appeal, with many holes out on an open heath.

Pics from Warks Golf (David Morgan) and the club website.  It looks like the club have redone some bunkers on the 13th and 17th holes, which now look terrible!

I am a little confused as to the name/location of this course.
Is it Warks Golf Club in Sutton Coldfield or something else?
I have played Little Aston, which I believe is nearby.

One more thing. I believe there is a MacKenize course in central England called Reddish Vale. It would be great if you could post some pictures.

Instead of playing The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham just drive past and find this apparent gem.  I was told that is was brillian little course when I was in the gent's at Royal Porthcawl in Wales!!

My design partner also thinks it is great, I haven't played it yet.

Paul, Thanks for posting these images. Clearly it has a lot of Mac to them, and it is like an arrow in the heart to see how some of the features have been "Americanized." UGH!

Threads like this are the reason why I escape to Golf Club Atlas. When they implode on themselves with the diatribe of "I'm subjective and your not!" it ruins not only the greatness of this website, but the greatness of golf in general.

Funny how things were nice for a week and and a half.

It's Sutton Coldfield GC, in Warks, I "stole" the pics from the Warks golf website.

One reason I'm searching this area for golf courses is because my old man is moving to the county in the spring and I want to find some places to play when I visit him.  The midlands of England has never really struck me as being very strong for golf; but from photos I've found a number of courses that look very appealing and very different too:  Harborne, Sutton Coldfield, Edgbaston, Atherstone.

I think can see lots of Mack there.  Some of the bunkers look like Mackenzie to me, although I'm sure they've been cleaned up.  It's difficult to see the green contour, but the one with the false front/ridge looks super.  

These are the "new" bunkers that I was refering to as "terrible".  Perhaps inspired by that great Mack course ANGC?




Comparing the two websites, this photo is apparently the new version of the second to last photo shown above!!  

I wonder if  Mack expert, Tom Doak, has played it?
