GC Atlas 5th Anniversary Poster
« on: April 07, 2004, 09:41:47 PM »
As a means to raise support for Golf Club Atlas, a special 5th Anniversary poster has been commissioned.

The poster was created by Hatch Showprint of Nashville, Tennessee. Hatch Showprint is best known for their music/concert posters for Elvis Presley and a host of other music greats. (Check them out at http://www.hatchshowprint.com/

The poster is 14-inches wide x 22-inches in height, a perfect size for framing. Hatch is reknown for their wood letterpress type — a historic throwback to the early 1900s. The design is 1920-30s in feel...how appropriate!

Mike Hendren and I have coordinated this special, limited edition press run of 150 posters. When they sell out...well, tough. We're suggesting $40, or $50 if you can manage it. This covers the poster, a sturdy mailing tube and shipping. All proceeds go to GCA.com.

Please e-mail Mike for specifics — we hope you all will consider this a great way to support Ran and the wonderful opportunity he provides for us all. Mike's e-mail is below:

Forrest - Mike brought a box full to The King's Putter and several of us bought one.  I did and I think it is really cool... just have to find a place that it's allowed to be displayed!

For one and all, this is another good way to give something back, defray costs for Ran, and get something pretty neat in return.  Let's get them all purchased!

Heck, buy one for yourself.

Couldn't you EACH buy one!  Guess with all the side bets, the North team had to pool their money together to buy a poster.  ;D

Just back into town from Spring Break with the family - in SoCal no less.  Received numerous pats on the back at The Del, Seaworld and the San Diego Zoo from locals basking in the recent Kings Putter victory.  I was a little embarrased when hoisted on the skycaps shoulders and carried down terminal 1 to my waiting flight!

Keep the post e-mails coming. Just wanted to let all who've expressed interest know that I'll respond individually in the next couple of days.

Regards,

Mike

It has come to my attention that not everyone here has ordered a GCA 5th Anniversary poster — please do so. You will be contributing to Ran's wonderful arena for us all — and ultimately, you will will send a strong signal to your family and friends that GCA is serious business. I know this because I have just returned from the local frame shop where I spent slightly too much on a black wood frame to complete this historic poster project. Now...if I can only get rid of those family photos of the aunts and uncles we never see....

Ok, I am a lurker. Big time lurker. But I really want to get a poster and I want  to start sharing my two cents with the gang. So here I go: First question, can I lurker of about 2 years maybe 3 buy a poster and put it in on my wall without feeling like an idiot for never posting, yet having the poster on my wall... Maybe, but doubtful.(i do check the message board about 10 times a day. haha) So I guess I will have to start posting and maybe hang it on my wall when I hit 25 posts or so.
Anyone have any suggests on how to ease my guilt. Since this is my first post I will introduce myself (to the few people that are checking this subject...) I learned the game at VCoM and Seven Oaks  (Colgate University) and I am currently reading The Links. My absolute favorite experince in life is playing VCoM in the late late afternoon, and my favorite course is Sand Hills, im sorry Cypress. I never thought Id say that. Anyway, thats me. 24 more posts and I can get a poster!

Lacking a good place to hang it, mine remains in the tube.  Any recommendations?

Kevin- Geez, I hope I'm the gullable one but for my money those are cigars. They appear to me to be two caddie like old curmudgeons about to go chest to chest debating the minutae, that we love to fight over.

Somehow I think I've seen those two bums before. Maybe clip art?

Yes, Adam...clip art. Actually the American Type Foundry catalog from about 1906. It is the same catalog that housed the Forrest Richardson & Associates golfer icon used on our stationery, glow-in-the-dark keychains, signage and decals for our crack fleet of Go-Go three-wheeled golf carts.

I understand Mike Hendren has been told to clean out his garage. For thgose of you who haven't done so, please send a check to Mike for one of these great posters so he can get on with life. As you all know, proceeds go to GCA c/o Ran so the site can be maintained. Our thanks to Mike and his family for allowing the limited edition posters to have a home.

Forrest,

It's not that bad.  However, my wife IS holding my Wilson R-90 Sand Wedge, a gift from my father 30 years ago, as ransom pending distribution of more posters.  She doesn't mind the posters - it's the darned mailing tubes I purchased that take up the room.

As you know, Golf's Most Beloved is thrilled with his poster.  As you do not know, I have requested the mailing address of the Painswick Golf Club from Rihc Goodale and am sending them a complimentary poster from The Treehouse.

Everybody else listen up,

With only TWO more contributions, the costs of producing and distributing the posters will be covered.  Thereafter, ALL proceeds will go to Ran.  Only on GCA would such an opportunity devolve into a discussion of what the two silhouettes are doing ;)  Just think of them as Tom Paul and Pat Mucci!

To free Golf's Most Beloved to do more course profiles (what's up with THAT?) I will continue to handle shipping an collectiions.  Just TWO more checks payable to yours truly and I can post instructions that future checks be paid directly to GolfClubAtlas.com.  Oh happy day!

Do you really think that poster is good art?  Are those angry colors really symbolic of gca.com's purpose or future promise?

Steve,

In response to criticism that the newspaper for which he wrote took a few liberties with the truth, the late Southern humorist Lewis Grizzard replied "Heck it only costs a quarter.  We can print the truth, but the paper will cost $9.95!"

If it's art you want, call Michael Miller and be prepared to raid the retirement fund ;)

Mike's garage is still cluttered with these GCA Posters. I have received a summons to appear before Mrs. Hendren to explain this.

Look, I really don't need this at the moment.

Would a few of you please send Mike an e-mail and a check so he can mail you a copy? The posters are really cool — printed by Hatch Showprint, the old Nashville shop that created posters for Elvis and a host of greats dating back to the early 1900s.

Forrest,

Your thinly veiled attempt to re-jumpstart poster contributions is not appreciated on this end.  For twenty years I have been married to the most wonderful girl in the world and she would never call you to task for such a trivial matter.  I am wounded by your bogus assertion and seriously hope my wife reads this ;)

Nonethless, I am delighted to report that the initial capital has been returned to the founders of this project and that any future checks mailed to me should be payable directly to GolfClubAtlas.com and mailed to my attention at;

1635 Oakhall Drive
Brentwood, TN  37027

They will be forwarded directly to Ran, whoever he is and whever he is.  That should allay any concerns that Forrest and I are running a scam here.  In all honesty, we were just hoping to curry enough favor to warrant an invitation to Augusta National Golf Club in the coming year to once and for all establish that Patrick Mucci, Carlyle Rood, John Kavanaugh and yours truly rightly place it among the world's great golf courses, warts and all.

Kindest regards,

Mike
