My current thinking is to fly in Monday a.m., stay in Noth Berwick Monday, rounds at NB on Monday and Tuesday before heading to St Andrews. Thanks David.

Start IMing the remaining players for availability I guess and put in your own application. David must have had a silent fourth as I thought John K was the filler, but I must be wrong. Tom Doak may have an opening.
Dornoch at the end of March, weatherwise? I wouldn't like that drive.

To hopefully clear up some of the confusion: I submitted an application at 7EST for everyone who told me they wanted to be included on my application. That was only Peter and Sean.

Haven't you heard of global warming?

I take that drive most every year at that time, and the only place you can see snow is on the distant peaks of the Cairngorms, and once you get to Dornoch and its microclimate, you would imagine you were in Bandon in the middle of the summer, except that the golf is so much better!

And FYI no trolleys on the old course until April. Clarification -The Links Trusts diferentiates between wide wheel trolleys,
which they rent and are available yearlong, and regular trolleys, which have the restrictions.

I have successfully submitted an application for me and John Krystynak. Hopefully we will all get in, but won't know for eight weeks!

I'm thinking of flying into Edinburgh or maybe Glasgow, play at NB, drive to St A, on to Dornoch for a first ever visit, then head back to Edinburgh via Cruden Bay.

Is it possible that those fortunate enough to play TOC in reverse could report on the experience ?

It would be helpful if those reporting have played TOC in both orders.

If you read my response earlier in this thread, I reported on my friend Mike Prystowsky's experience from last year.

He was quite disappointed in the RC because of the decades of maintenance that allowed gorse to grow and thrive in places CRITICAL to the proper play of the reverse routing. Unless they cut down that gorse during the past year the player is forced to take aerial approaches around greens that are impossible plays.

If you would like a copy of the reverse course strokesaver let me know. I sent copies to Tommy, Brad and a couple of others last year.

Hi Geoffrey - I am kind of a newcomer here, but have been planning a trip to play TOC Reverse for the past 6 mos or so. I got our application in right at the opening, so I would think we have a good chance.
You seem to have a little knowledge here - where can I purchase an Old Course Reverse Strokesaver - I looked on their website and did not see anything except TOC Modern.
Any ideas?

Jeremy Glenn's excellent essay on the Reverse Old Course is included as one of the "In My Opinion" pieces on this site. It's about half way down the list, and has a lot of really interesting diagrams and thoughts on the reverse play. He also included some good ideas about improvements to the course to facilitate reverse play, but it sounds like the first need is to get the axes after the gorse!

I had a call back from the powers that be and:

1. There are probably still places avalable
2. If we let them know enough in advance, we can coordinate our times so that we can get off at roughly the same time.

So....

How many times have been requested, with how many people involved at each? If we can get 5-6 times (20-24 people), we could have a pretty decent Buda Cup.

I would say, put in an application, with three other stiffs who have a club and a handicap, and then when they ask for confirmation we'll sort it all out. Of course, I haven't checked the website to see if this is legal....

I would love to have three dances with you guys. You can lead (the Old reverse), then we can do that NEW dance (nutbush?) and then I can lead for the third OLD dance. Perhaps that Dornoch two-step and a quick foxtrot at North Berwick as well!
