That ought to be against the law in someplace other than Utah!

a. Richie Ramsay
b. Borg (was always good on grass).

c. The name is Shacklady, David Shacklady. His sister Mona Cartgirl (nee Shacklady) qualified for the Women's Open.  :D

d. Who said "I rather like the fact that as one goes round somber old Carnoustie, a bloody good shot can end up in the hay while a perfectly horrid sot might very likely find its way to the green"?

Hey by the way, is anybody else really hurt that Tim Clark didn't play his way in?  I was all set to pick him to win if he got into the field.

What kind of player has the advantage at carnoustie?  A target golfer?

Tiger
Fasth

Quite probably 1,2

BTW- lots of love for Els here. Am I missing something? Last time I saw him he looked on the slippery slope to mediocracy. I'd love to see him resurface, but...

I'm surprised at how many people are taking Els and based off his performance at Loch Lomond I can see why. I think this is the major that the Europe major championship drought ends. The best European hopes I think rest on a trio of Englishmen: Paul Casey, Justin Rose, or Luke Donald.

I don't think any of the Swedes will be a factor (top five finish).

Sergio Garcia shoots a low final round well ahead of the lead groups, and then watches as the leader bogeys 2 of the last 3 to give it to him and get him "off the schneid" in majors (he also becomes the first player to win a major with a belly putter :-X).

Low Swede = Fasth

Good question -- in '99, with a brutal and very long set-up, two of the three guys who made the playoff (Leonard and Van de Velde) weren't exactly long hitters. I sort of played off that in choosing Donald, who I think is due soon for a major. Fasth's best BOpen finish was runner-up to Duval at Lytham in '01, another course that's fairly tight and unforgiving. I got the impression, walking the course in '99 and watching it that year, that someone who could keep the ball in play and out of the hay, and have a good week on the greens, would do well. Leonard has usually putted well in the Open, and Van de Velde had an astonishing week putting the ball -- he even one-putted the 18th!

Interesting article on a practice round by Tiger and Rob Pampling (remember him last time The Open was at Carnoustie?)

Now those are the conditions I'd love to see for one day of the Open.  They don't even have to be quite that extreme, just make them play under some real Scottish conditions for once.  Unfortunately mid 60s and sunny with light winds has become way too common for the Open the last 10-15 years, with few exceptions (like that Muirfield Saturday where Tiger shot 83)  Damn global warming! ;)

Monty-I figure this could be his last chance and it would be a shame with the career he's had that he didn't win a major.

Fasth-I know it's a popular pick, but he's just good!

Aww what the heck...

Gimme Mickelson to win the thing, and Pettersson to be low Swede.

You obviously had something better to do on Sunday than watch the final round of the Scottish Open.  Unless Butch realy earns his corn this week Phil's going home on Friday.
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

I've said Els for the Masters and US Open so I'll stick with him.

Fasth for the low Swede.
Splosh! One of the finest sights in the world: the other man's ball dropping in the water - preferably so that he can see it but cannot quite reach it and has therefore to leave it there, thus rendering himself so mad that he loses the next hole as well.

Tiger to win (assuming he wants to be in Scotland rather than at home with his baby daughter), otherwise Rose or Donald.

Fasth as low Swede
2014 to date: not actually played anywhere yet!
Still to come: Hollins Hall; Ripon City; Shipley; Perranporth; St Enodoc
