Not sure how quick the spots will fill up.  I'd say 24hours from now we'd have to be just about ready.  

Others there on the ground (i.e Rich, FBD) might be better placed than I to decide this.

I have made a couple of calls and I am just one return call away from the person who can make the decision.

What I think would be critical to getting a positive response(i.e. commitment to give us 5-6 reasonably contiguous tee times (20-24 players)) would be to commit to a serious GCA event, i.e. 6 "Name" GCAs, 6 Apprentices, 12 Groupies (including some "names" in other areas--greenkeeping, administration, writing, etc.).

The current protocol is that every application must include name, home club and handicap.  I'll never be able to do that for 20-24 people (particularly given my standards above) prior to tonight's deadline (12 midnight, GMT).  I'll try to get a waiver from the head honcho, but unless you hear from me earlier, I would STRONGLY recommend that anybody wanting to participate in this event put in their own application separately (with the required info) at whatever point they start getting nervous about me not gbetting that waiver (or even applying) on time.

A final note....

If this all works, it may well be that some GCAers may have to be bumped from one or more of the 3-day events (e.g., if Coore and Crenshaw, or Kelly Blake Moran or Tom Fazio want to join in at the last moment, somebody's gonna have to step aside).  However, as compensation, if this thing works, we'll have enough people and enough venues (think FIFE!!!!) to make Buda V a real festival of GCA intensive golf, over a wider period and wider (but still narrow) geography.

If and only if I can get some sort of blanket booking, but don't count on me.  As I haven't heard back from the links trust, it is increasingly likely that we will have to do this on our own.

Once they down tools at the Eden House (5-6 GMT today), I'll post more info/suggestions.

Option 1: cost £200
Wednesday, 28 March – Old Course normal
Thursday, 29 March – New Course or Jubilee Course
Friday, 30 March – Old Course in reverse

Option 2: cost £120
Saturday, 31 March – Old Course in reverse
Sunday, 1 April – New Course or Jubilee Course

Option 3: cost £200
Monday, 2 April – Old Course in reverse
Tuesday, 3 April – New Course or Jubilee Course
Wednesday, 4 April – Old Course normal

There is another Aussie prepared to make the trip across the equator.  Looks like I have a leave pass, if I can get a game.  Please put me in (Blackwood GC, Adelaide Australia, handicap 6)

Perhaps that will make 3 Aussies (Chris, Sean amd myself.  Aussie, aussie, aussie).  We can play 'spot the aussie' - a favourite tourist game.  Which team do we play for in the Buda Cup?  The aliens?

I spoke with the Links Trust last week but did not address the issue of group bookings.  I will be putting an application in for Option 1.  If you would like to be included on my application, please let me know today.

TO ALL AND SUNDRY

It is 2:45, and I haven't heard back from the links trust.  They may be in double secret committee meeting considering my request, but let's assume that they have taken a trip to the planet Skyron for the day.  So, what's next?

My recommendation is that:

1.  Whoever wants to organize a team of four, go ahead and try to do so and e-mail the links trust prior to tonight's deeadline.
2.  Whoever wants to play, but not organize, post your name, club and handicap on here (as James Bennett has done above)
3.  Organizers choose from the pool generated from 2. above to fill out your teams.
4.  Use this thread for a clearing house of organizers and players.

I personally do not have the time later today to organize, but I would like to be put in the pool (Rich Goodale, Aberdour GC, 6hcp).  If selected, I will play.  If I do hear from the links trust later in the day, you guys will be the first to know.

My friend played the reverse course last year.  He is a fan of St Andrews who goes over to play the normal routing at least two times per year.  He also has interests in reverse courses having discovered that his home course was in fact reversible at one time (see article in my opinion on Westchester CC).

Having said that he was very disappointed in the reverse course.  There is apparently tons of gorse grown up in locations that are required to play numerous shots on the reverse routing.  The result is approaches and pitches that now require aerial routes that are impossible.  His conclusion was that a serious gorse removal program will be necessary to make the reverse routing feasible for anything but a curiosity. It is currently a novelty that does not work.

I have a copy of the reverse strokesaver and I have sent it to a few of you.

Everyone planning on Option 1?  That's the March 28-30 dates.  I am game for on to Dornoch immediately following golf on the 30th if anyone is interested.

I have already submitted the application so perhaps a second group could get together.

I will not be able to do Dornoch >:( but I am planning on a N.Berwick ;D  ;D and Muirfield side trip before I end up in St. Andrews if anyone is interested.

I'd also be interested in North Berwick before this event.  I would say it is the course that most closely fits the intent of COT.

Of course this (NB) may depend on what I'm doing to earn a crust.

I'd nominate Sunday the 25th for NB.  Depending on availability of course.
