You are grasping at straws.... ;)

Sans hedge, the 1st at Cypress would be a much better golf hole--GCA wise, esthetically, and experientially.  Surely the members can have a whip-round some day, and then build a tunnel, rip up the road, tear down the hedge, and voila--one of the greatest opening holes in all of golfdom.  Now, if it were any place but Cypress, one's reaction on the tee would be "Whaaaaa???" ???

No one has mentioned the first at Stanford ... similar set-up to CPC and arguably a much better view ..

Stanford's not blind is it, Mike?  Or have they added a hedge too, to protect the cars and bikers on Alameda des las Pulgas? and/or in some sort of perverted paroxysm of Cypress envy.....?

Boy, do I miss that rickety old bridge you had to cross to get across the road in the good old days...... :'(

Good call, Mike - the two courses have similar issues also, with a busy road to be hit over.

Heck, if the members at Cypress wanted to, they surely could create the zillion-dollar "improvement" Rich suggests.  And an improvement it would be.  But is what's there now all that bad, making it worth doing?  I sure don't think so... I get what Adam's saying and the mystery/course unfolding is kinda neat.

I've always thought complaints about this hedge were much ado about nothing, but hey, you know happy me.   ;D

No blindness at Stanford.
But yes, not really a uniform hedge, but bushes there have been allowed to grow pretty tall, protecting horrid tops and the like from reaching the road, which is not Alameda de las Pulgas, btw - that starts on the other side of Sand Hill.  And I miss that old bridge also.   ;)

Junipero Serra Blvd ...

From the back tees (Cardinal in color) you can not see the fairway landing area ... so, it is not perfectly blind I suppose ...

MB - have you see the new way-back tee alongside the putting green?  Yep, plenty blind from back there.  But normal tees have blindness only in that you can't see the road and the first part of the fairway.

Great hole, great course.

FBD,

You, like most opticians, have positioned yourself uncomfortably close to our crotch. ;D

Martin:

That would be better.  But of course you've eliminated the road, which just plain isn't going to happen.  Put the road back in there, add the parade of tourist vehicles, then ask the question again.

How about getting rid of ALL the vegetation (include those "foozle" trees) and putting railroad-style level crossings at each side of the picture?

Thanking you in advance.
