Thats a great one too. So simple. I would think that probably its naming was inspired to some extent by The Country Club?

The Country Club

I mean it's THE Country Club- its the original- how can you beat that?

SEVEN!!!!!!!!

I like Rye also.  Both for the "wry" and the whisky connotations.

I also really like all the weird names in Maine.  We've discussed those before.

As for my Sheep Ranch that god help the golf world if it ever comes to fruition... I have no Costanzan fears when I divulge to the world that it will be known as "Stupidly Designed GC."

I have always wanted to incorprate the word "Downs" in a course name.....Like Crystal Downs!

It seems like almost any name sounds good with "Downs" attached.

Naccarata Downs
Huckaby Downs
Morrissett Downs

Augusta Downs

Rob, that sounds too much like a summation of my football career.

But I do like the concept.

Works for horse-race tracks too.

How about Settingdown Creek outside of Atlanta. The only thing better than the name are the miniature rocking chairs used for tee markers.

Rob
Great golf course, great logo.  The name is even a little bit better than you have it here because there is no "g" in it.  (Settindown Creek, adds some southern flavor)  The only negative is that the creek that runs through the front nine isn't called that.  Kind of weird, but a lot more catchy than Mill Creek or Little River, which are the two local creeks.

Courses named after clubs are always cool.  And my favorite is:

The Jockey Club. (aka Jockey Club Golf).

What a great name for a golf course.

Also, any spanish town name with "Club de Golf" is pretty cool in my mind:

Real Club de Golf Sotogrande

How about a throwback to the days when golf was played in shirt and tie - Tuxedo Club

Of course there are clubs named after animals:
Porcupine Creek
Antelope Hills

Then there are the Architect EGO course names:

Pete Dye GC
P.B. Dye GC (Pete's son could not be left out)

In Marlyand we have the alcohol related names such as:
Whiskey Creek GC
Blue Mash GC

There are also the "comfortable slipper course names"
Old Memorial
Old Waverly
Old Kinderhook

I've long thought Gil Hanse has "luck'd out" with good names for the courses he's been involved with creating:

Applebrook
Inniscrone
Craighead
South Fork
Rustic Canyon
The Capstone Club
Tallgrass
Boston Golf Club

And, maybe, Prairie Club

Simplicity rules.

Actually, people in Cleveland don't refer to the Pepper Pike club as "The Country Club".

I've always only heard "Country".

Of course the name is important but what courses are called by locals is as interesting.  In the DC area "The Point" (Hains Point) and "The Congo" (Congressional) are as common as the given names.

It is also a rare golfer that has played "The Point" and "The Congo" in the same year...or ever.

The evening attire takes its name from the town (and club), not vice versa.

Secession

Might be hard for some to spell let alone pronounce, however, a simple name, that at the end of the day fits the area, it's history and to a certain extent the mood of the joint.
