Scott,

Thanks for the pictures.

To learn more about Hidden Creek, look under courses by Country and read Ran's review.

TEPaul,

Yes, you can come, but please wear a bib and old shoes, we don't want you drooling all over yourself and other attendees.

For those planning to attend, what questions or issues would you like the three speakers to address.
We have the owner/founder/major domo, the architect and the superintendent, all of whom worked together to create and maintain Hidden Creek.

It's a rare opportunity when all three are together and accessible for discussion and questioning.  This is your chance to hear it from "the horses mouth", and to view and play the features discussed.

"For those planning to attend, what questions or issues would you like the three speakers to address."

Building on Ron Whitten's article in GD, I'd like to hear their perspective on the trend in golf course development / architecture towards expensive clubs/courses that do not promote better access to the game.  Is this trend here to stay?  What impact will it have on the future of the game/architecture?  Is it possible to build a course, properly maintain it, keep the budget in the black and keep it affordable for the average person and his/her kids?  Would developers, architects, and supers even take those projects if they could make more money across the street at a new high-end private or daily-fee course?

Since we're going to have the symposium in the morning and golf in the afternoon, we'll probably cap attendance, or golf at 72 participants in order to insure an enjoyable round of golf.
More than one foursome per hole might slow things down a  bit.

If we have a full field, 18 foursomes, I thought that I would assign each group to a hole, architecturally.  Probably their starting hole.  At the end of play, during cocktails and hors d oeuvres, each group could take 5 minutes to tell us their thoughts about that hole from an architectural and playability point of view.

It's a rare opportunity when you get the creator, architect and superintendent together to discuss the golf course, especially a golf course like Hidden Creek.  So this should be a very informative event.

It will be interesting to hear Bill Coore tell us how and why he designed certain holes and features, and then have the opportunity to go out and play them.

It will also give us a chance to discuss architecture with other architects in attendance such as Kelly Blake Moran and George Bahto.

Patrick:

I want you to know that Wayne Morrison and I are now golf course architects. Maybe one could not exactly say we are "full-fledged" architects but we are at least "semi-fledged" (to what degree could be discussed and debated).

Wayne thinks our company is called "Morrisson & Paul" (probably because the first initial of his last name comes first in the alphabet) but I say it's called "Paul Morrison" because that sounds a bit like a combined golf architect/aging rock star which is without question far more appealing to any potential golf architect client!

Whatever our new "semi-fledged" architectural company is called I'm the Chairman of the Board, President and CEO and Wayne is just some lowly grunt-man who's responsible for doing all the research, writing, clerical work and pretty much everything else that's necessary.

My job is to just sit around thinking up neat architectural concepts and such and explaining to him how to avoid constantly taking wrong turns so we can eventually get where we need to go. (the fact that most all our architectural friends and potential clients seem to call him on his cell phone first and not me on my cell phone is a constant annoyance and a really poor way of doing business and will definitely have to be changed in our company policy and operating practices!).

So I think I should be given equal time to speak at this outing at Hidden Creek. Of course Wayne will not be allowed to speak and will grant me all his speaking time, if he knows what's good for him.

I do undertand that Bill Coore (and his occasional partner who still plays tour golf) is the architect of this Hidden Creek place but I don't know anything about him. He could be a total chump as far as I know. We will just have to wait and see!

Jeff Riggs? I actually know him. He's a good man and he may be able to grow fescue in the hot unpredictable weather conditions of South Jersey better than any man but I'm gonna have to have a private discussion with him about the stripped mowing pattern on that 13th fairway that shows up on that aerial above. That's not acceptable!

Roger Hansen? Oh, sure, I've heard about him too! They say he's a good businessman and a great guy but what the hell is he speaking for at this architectural outing? So what if he thought up the idea of the course and  owns it? What is he gonna tell us---how to write checks NATURALLY???

Mike's dad is a legend, and think he would be a valued particpant.

Pat,  I am trying to do all I can to make it, I have a  connection to a charity event that friday and another commitment on Tuesday, but I am trying desperately to make this work, this sounds like a fantastic day.

Please put me on the confirmed list. The program at Baltusrol last year was great, and the added opportunity to play a gem like Hidden Creek again makes this a "drop everything and go" occasion. Thanks so much for putting it together.

Mike and Tom,

Count yourselves in.

Mike,

The last fellows who drove with TEPaul were mummified from fright.  I'd consider alternate forms of transportation.

Do you remember the car from Harry Potter ?
They borrowed it from TEPaul.

From the aerial, it looked to me as if there's room for another nine holes at Hidden Creek.  That might be an interesting question to ask Roger Hansen.
