The Sheep Ranch is the ultimate "cross-country" venue in the world.

Why...are there any number of blind shots....and how is any cross-country venue any better than who is calling the holes...The first unofficial Fazio Society meeting will include a cross-country round that will put the sheep ranch to shame.....you might even find some great holes Fazio missed.

Bill, I went the other evening to the reservation. No trees, no sheep, just subtle dunesy land with natural plateau greens and blow-out bunkers. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Anyone want to take a stab at the Bisti Badlands, get here. It's fo' free!  :o

On topic:
One of the best days to discuss, was on our trip last year on Black Mesa's short par 4 14th. When Lou Duran made that wonderful statement, "I don't have a shot".

I could see Lou's thought proccessies in that nano-second, and I corrected his over-sight. ;D

For me that was a different kind of fun, gca, left brain, right brain, fun.

I should have elaborated a bit before. The Sheep Ranch is the ultimate "cross-country" venue in the world. You can also make up your own holes any way you want.

When I was at Prestwick last week, one of the members told me about the annual Cross-Country match they have with Royal Troon.

Begin the day at either Prestwick or Troon.  Play out through #8 at Prestwick or #9 at Troon, then walk through the carivan park and over to the other course.  Finish the first 18 holes on the other course and go have lunch.  Since coat & tie is required at both clubs, the Club Managers move all the member clothing after they tee-off so they can have lunch (and again for dinner).  After lunch you start on the other course and walk across.

Sounds like a great 36-hole day.

It got me to thinking if there were any other clubs that had enough proximity to be able to do that.  I the US I could think of:

NGLA/Shinnecock/SouthHampton
Olympic/SGFC (maybe)

Others??

Stonewall and French Creek have talked about a 54-hole mid-summer tournament around the 3 courses.

Quaker Ridge and Winged Foot has a 54-hole killer loop possible.

Brian

I was told (by a Troon member, but never confirmed) in the late 70's that there was an annual point-to-point charity event starting at Prestwick St. Nicholas, and going on to Prestwick, Troon, the Troon Munis, Western Gailes, Glasgow Gailes and finishing at Barassie.

Now that would be fun!
