I'm not quite as extreme as my comment, either, though I will say I am probably more anti tree than anyone on the site, with the possible exception of redanman.
For me, trees are like introducing someone to something that's fine in moderation but dangerous in the extreme. Once trees are introduced, there's no stopping them tree lovers! Even with parkland courses, I prefer trees only on the exterior of holes, or, really the exterior of the course. Given the choice of Oakmont, Oakland Hills, Winged Foot, ANGC, etc., with no trees or overtreed, with I think is sadly the choice, I prefer none. I'm hard pressed to think of a single club that managed their tree situation well (though I'm sure the experts on this site will soon correct me). It seems as though every club has to get
way overtreed before action is taken, and said action usually isn't enough.
