yes, and in Paul Daley's Golf Architecture Vol 1, where it is also printed.

Is there anything else?  I recall some other suggestion of available information in an earlier post.

If we start at #1 Reverse, Sean, does the preferred line of drive depending on where the pin is on #17 green?  Is a back pin playable, from where on the fairway.  It sounds like 'middle fairway' is the go for a front or middle pin.

James,

At an educated guess I'd say the further the pin is back (i.e towards the Hotel) the more advantage you will get from being left off the tee.  Although if it is right at the back then way right off the tee may work as you could then lay up towards what is the traditional front of the green and play the hole in the way most golfers should play the normal routing (i.e lay up short right and try to get down in 2)

I have to think that the pin position on rev #1 is utterly insignificant.
The tee shot will be best the further left it is - no matter what. The ROAD HOLE BUNKER will affect only second shots coming in from the RIGHT.
The green will be running short left to long right in a VERY narrow way, so will be an utter Bee-atch to land no matter what.
Need I say, I am well 'Jonesed', as you boys say, to attempt the approach.
Can't wait to be disproven though...! ;D

Martin,

Before looking at it on Sunday I would have agreed with you.  But that is quite a drop off from the green coming back towards Rusacks.  If you're short then I don't think you'll make it onto the green and if you carry to the green you're likely to end up off the front.  

I do believe there is an opportunity to approach from about 45 degrees up a less pronounced slope allowing a little more possibility of holding/reaching the green.

I see of which you speak. There is quite a front - nay, apronish false front - awaiting the shorter approach, BUT, don't you think that if your length is right then the only concern will be about your line?
I intend thrashing a 3-wood to somewhere about 20 yards right of where Grannie Clark's Wynd emerges from 'The Links' and then sliding an easy wedge to about eight feet and making an easy birdie to start.
Wait and see the Double Bogey... ;)

It would appear that the chance that we will be playing on matts is zero.

Matts have been mothballed on The Eden and I also saw people playing without them on TOC (but this was on a saturday, so I wasn't sure if it was weekday policy as well).

Also I have seen Links Trust Literature somewhere stating the use of matts is meant to end on March 27.

O most considerate uncle,
British Summer Time (clocks forward) begins Sunday, 25th March. It's already light until 6pm and beyond, thus 7pm and beyond is cool.
As I recall, +5 mins extra daylight per day over the next 28 days gives us, err, um, ahh, ENOUGH time!!! ;D

The best thing about these late tee times is late rising as well.  8)

Maybe that Wednesday night, the first in town, we can all have beers together and wait for the 1400 tee time guys, then eat in the bar say at the Dunvegan.  Peter, you won't be long behind us.

At long bloody last...someone with an honest opinion about that American bar hiding as a Scottish Pub...

If I were you guys I would follow Chris K to whatever watering hole he can find for you guys.  Dunvegan is just a home from home for American golfers to suck up to each other about what a great course TOC is after their very first round...

....and I still feel anyone who thinks TOC is a great course the first time they play it are LYING... ;D

Thankyou Brian, it is a truly dreadful place.  Fulfils the very worst St Andrews stereotypes over the summer: rich, white, fat Americans congregating with their new best mates - the alcoholic caddies who did a terrible job for them that day.  They all using each other, so it works well.  And it keeps the imbeciles away from the good pubs!

Why on earth would anyone go to an American pub while in Scotland?  As an Australian I cringe whenever I see a Fosters logo!  

Better bets (for a GCA crowd) would be 1 Golf Place, TP's, the Jigger, Drouthy's or Greyfriars.
