I notice they base the handicap rating of each hole on the total strokes they expect you to play it in.  Not strokes related to par.  And so the holes that play easiest to par in the Masters -- the par 5's -- are also the #1 through 4 handicap holes.

Last and only time I had a handicap was 1980.  Never paid attention to it.  Is that really how they do it?  Seems like strokes to par (or hole rating) would be a better system.

Patrick,

Those are the same holes I selected, though I included 13 as well.  Works out to a little over 6600 yards.  With 10+/- yards of elasticity, 6750 seems doable with that combo as well.

What really stands out is the need to precisely place your second on nos. 1, 5, 7, 10, 11, 14 17 & 18  to have a reasonable chance at two putt pars, much less birdies.  Today, most decent players have the length to reach such holes in two strokes, but only a very small subset has the ability to precisely (3 or four paces in any direction from the hole) control distance and accuracy from beyond 150 yards.

The two shot holes are monsters.

That combo would be a lot of fun - no doubt the most pure fun to be had playing that course.

I'd still want one crack at the full tips... that is until the pros start playing that combo.

You guys just don't understand golf fantasies.  That's ok - it's not exactly healthy that I have such things.

but remember Huck, the first step on the road to recovery is that you admit you have a problem... ;)

Paul:

This is a problem from which I have no desire to recover, given it's limited to one round at one very specific course.

I do, however, have plenty for friends who certainly do need to go to Tee-Ego-Holics Anonymous.  You played with one of them.
