I've got a game on Saturday at Lundin with Ian Dickson of Buda Cup fame, along with John Krystynak and one of Ian's ringers.  I'm sure we can get another group along if anyone's interested.  I've not been there yet and have been hoping to play it.

Sunday is a second go at North Berwick West at 1 p.m.; home on Monday 4/2.

Bill

I played golf with Ian on Sunday and he said was waiting to hear from you to confirm any golf.  Gie him a bell (or an e-mail...). :)

Bill,

I'm in for Archerfield, assuming it fits in with the North Berwick game being played that afternoon.

In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Please count me in for the Archerfield tour, assuming of course that we finish at North Berwick on time.

Thanks, guys, good crowd, the last to finish at North Berwick will have to forgo that first pint so we can hustle over to Archerfield! One group starts at 1 p.m. and the other at 1:30 as I recall.

Correct Bill.  I'm going to see if we can move one time up a bit as about half the group wants to do the tour. Will send an IM and then post final arrangements.  We are now 8 again, one withdrawal.

Uncle Bill/fellow RevTOCers,
don't think I can now make the Archerfield trip. New job taking up lots of my time/attention. Could do the following sat/sun though if at all possible, TD?

cheers,

Bring your hard hats!   :o  Check out the cross overs in the loop, this will be wild.

Obviously nobody at the Links Trust read Jeremy Glenn's essay in the My Opinion section - he advocates some revisions to the absolute reverse to avoid some of the potential casualties!  ::)

Tony, is there more to that graphic, all 18 holes for example?  I've been asking around to see if there is a stroke saver guide for the Reverse, to no avail.

That's all Bill.  I have until the end of the week to cut any useful bits out of a stack of old magazine's - you might guess it isn't entirely my decision but I've found a few useful pointers.

Just looking at 18, and wondering where the pin should be, and how the boundary and valley of sin will come into play.  Given all the debate on #18 normal not providing enough reward to the player that takes on the right hand play, how will we play.

Perhaps we should take the opportunity to start a thread starting at #1 and moving through the reverse course, a ka the Oakmont thread.  What do you think (especially Martin and Bill).  It is 7 weeks to go, so perhaps a new hole every couple of days.

Man am I hoping for a pin on the road hole that is not set on the Approach (eastern) side of the Road bunker.

Monday 3/26, around 6 p.m. I'd say.  Join us around 5 at the North Berwick clubhouse for a pint.  When the second group finishes, off we go to Archerfield!

Peter,
save your money for a couple of Belhavens (one for me!) I can't believe they'd try and charge you a fiver or a tenner to wander around a huge cold hall full of people trying to flog you golf tatt.

I have no idea what that last phrase means in Brit-speak (or is it Scots-speak?) but "tatt" sounds nasty. That said, I'm always looking to gain language fluency in anticipation of the next time I cross an ocean.

I walked TOC on Sunday.  Mainly looking at what will be the first eight holes of the reverse.

The holes that struck me were what will be the 1st, 2nd and 7th.  Also I hope they do prepare the course specifically for this event as if they don't there will be quite a few holes with rough (although light) in areas that would usually be openings to the green from the fairway.

The first will be very difficult to hit unless your tee shot is precisely positioned.  Before walking it I would have thought that hard on the left edge of the fairway would have been the best angle.  It's not..  The slope between the green and the burn from this angle is more severe than I thought.  The best angle of attack appears to be from the middle or centre/ right of the fairway using a more gentle slope that runs up beside the road bunker.  Still good luck holding the plateau beside the road bunker..

The second will be very tough.  If it is played as a par 4 it will ask for a long iron or fairway wood blind or semi-blind.  Also unless they cut back the rough from (what is currently) the rear of the 16th, you won't be running the ball up to the green.  Walk off with a 6 and be happy.

The seventh will be a shortish par 4 but the second shot is likely to be the toughest shot of the day, if not your life (and that's if your drive is a good one).  I see absolutely no hope of someone of my ability getting anywhere near the hole in 2.

Sean, is that 13th tee to 11th half of 7th/11th green?  That will be a bugger with the pin behind Hill Bunker anywhere it's placed.  It might be best to drive WAY right but I think there's gorse on that line.  From memory.

James, have you read Jeremy Glenn's article on the Reverse Old Course in the "In My Opinion" section?  It's really good, lots of graphics and ideas on how the Links Trust should proceed - particularly in the loop where he diverges from straight reverse routing.
